Badass Speaker

Sorry for the delay this morning.  I was at the car dealership auto repair shop – for the second time within the past week.  This past week I have had to visit the dentist and the car dealership repair shop. Both were not pleasant experiences.

_____

She is badass. U.S. House Speaker Nancy Pelosi is pretty much not going to let China tell her where she can go. Good for her.

_____

Pro-Choice forces across America are feeling pretty good today. GOP extremism took a big hit last night in Kansas. Protecting a woman’s right to choose is pretty much American mainstream. Democrats certainly have a winning issue for the upcoming election in November.

_____

William-Paul Thomas has been around H-Town politics for a long time. For the past two H-Town Mayors, Sylvester Turner, and Annise Parker, he was the liaison between the mayor’s office and city council members. I say was because he resigned last week after pleading guilty to a federal bribery charge. What?

There really are not a lot of details like who was doing the bribing and when it happened. Who would have thought William-Paul was dirty. Oh, well.

Check this from the Chron:

Harris County Judge Lina Hidalgo will remain shadowed by private security, after Commissioners Court on Tuesday approved more than $320,000 in spending.

XMi Protection, LLC, will continue acting as “personal protective service” for Hidalgo, and at times other county officials. As was the case in April when Commissioners Court approved the plan to use private guards, the vote was 3-2 with Commissioners Tom Ramsey and Jack Cagle opposed.

“I think it should be done by our constables or sheriff,” Cagle said, in the only comments on the plan prior to its approval Tuesday.

It was far less debate than the initial proposal prompted. Hidalgo’s previous detail was provided by Harris County Precinct One Constable Alan Rosen, who was among a handful of county officials who have sparred with Hidalgo over funding and other matters.

Commentary doesn’t have a problem with this. The GOP extremists in these parts have demonized Judge Hidalgo. She is probably getting threats. The GOP extremists are stirring up the wackos against her.  She needs protection. Don’t blame it on her.

It also doesn’t help that Constable Rosen’s chief of staff ran against the Judge earlier this year in the Democratic Party Primary.

I hate to say this, but I don’t think deputy constables are trained to take a bullet for Judge Hidalgo. The private firm guys are.

The Astros sent me this yesterday evening:

The Houston Astros have acquired 1B/DH Trey Mancini from the Baltimore Orioles, C Christian Vazquez from the Boston Red Sox, and LHP Will Smith from the Atlanta Braves.

Mancini, who brings a big bat to the Astros lineup, hit .268 with 16 doubles, 10 home runs, 41 RBI and a .751 OPS in 92 games for the Orioles this season. During his six-year career with Baltimore, Mancini has a .270 batting average and 117 career home runs.

Vazquez, a 31-year-old with 8 seasons of Major League experience under his belt, is batting .282 with 20 doubles, eight home runs, 42 RBI and a .759 OPS this season.

All-Star left-handed reliever Will Smith has 41 strikeouts in 41 appearances with the Braves this season. In 2021, as the Braves closer, he tallied 37 saves in 43 chances with 87 strikeouts in just 68.0 innings of work. Smith has been outstanding in his Postseason career, posting a 1.47 ERA in 20 career playoff appearances.

Ok. Trades are done. We got better. Let’s get back to winning.
