Those of us who have experienced hurricanes certainly know what folks along Florida’s west coast are feeling right now. It will be disruptive over the next few days and maybe weeks. Nothing good ever comes from getting hit by a hurricane. Good luck and be safe.

The 2 GOP Harris County Commissioners failed to show up at yesterday’s Commissioners Court meeting, thus preventing Commissioners Court from setting a property tax rate. In 2003, Texas Senate and House Democrats broke quorum to go to New Mexico and Oklahoma, eventually returned and didn’t get what they wanted. Last year, Texas House Democrats broke quorum twice and eventually returned and didn’t get what they wanted. Same thing is going to happen to the GOP Harris County Commissioners. We may not get a new tax rate, but the GOP Commissioners will be responsible for budget cuts to law enforcement, health care, flood mitigation projects, and infrastructure. Just saying.

U.S. Sen. Ted Cruz, R-Texas, broke from his own party in voting against a bipartisan bill that would bar him from singlehandedly objecting to presidential election results, as he did on Jan. 6, 2021.
The bill, dubbed the Electoral Count Reform and Presidential Transition Improvement Act, aims to prevent a constitutional crisis like the one that nearly occurred on Jan. 6, 2021. It clarifies procedural ambiguities that former President Donald Trump tried to exploit in an attempt to overturn the results of the 2020 presidential election.
Sens. Joe Manchin, D-West Virginia, and Susan Collins, R-Maine, sponsored the bill, and it has the support of Democrats and Republicans alike. Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell, R-Kentucky, came out support on Tuesday, raising the likelihood of passage. But during a Senate Rules Committee vote on the bill, Cruz objected, saying the bill undermines states’ constitutional autonomy in running their elections and therefore opens the door for voter fraud.
Pathetic Cancun wants to badly be president. He would sell out his family if given the choice. It is sad that he isn’t interested in protecting our democracy. He would rather be on the fringe. He is pretty much worthless.
