Freeze Coming

It looks like 24 to 36 hours of continuous freezing temperature Thursday through Saturday here in H-Town.  Remember the five Ps. Protect people, pets, plants, pipes, and pools, as in the swimming kind. It looks like it will be a cold Christmas Day.  Get ready.

This is from Saturday’s Chron:

Alex Triantaphyllis, Harris County Judge Lina Hidalgo’s chief of staff and one of three current and former county aides indicted in a controversial vaccine outreach contract, is leaving the judge’s office, Hidalgo announced on Twitter Friday afternoon.

This is from Friday night on Channel 2 news:

Judge Lina Hidalgo announced Friday the decision by her chief of staff, Alex Triantaphyllis, to depart from his current role in early 2023 “to pursue a new opportunity.” Hidalgo’s office said Triantaphyllis, who was one of three staffers indicted in March in an $11 million COVID-19 outreach contract investigation, will continue his public service in a new role in the Harris County Office of County Administration.

Folks know how Commentary feels about this.

He still has a gig at the county. Next time a local GOP staffer for a GOP elected official gets indicted and doesn’t resign, local Democrats will have no standing to call for their removal. Just saying.

This is from the Chron Sports Section today:

For the first time since 2016, the Houston area finished the UIL football season without a state title.

North Shore provided the last hope Saturday evening before losing 28-21 against Duncanville in the Class 6A Division I championship game.

The Mustangs (15-1) were the only local squad to reach Arlington after fellow perennial powerhouse Katy was eliminated by Vandegrift in the semifinals.

Since the last time the area was shut out, Cy-Fair (2017), North Shore (2018, 2019, 2021), Shadow Creek (2019), Katy (2020) and Paetow (2021) have all reached the mountaintop.

To me this is no big deal.  The H-Town region will continue to be one of the country’s hotbeds for high school football talent and teams.

Commentary mentioned the 43 college football bowl games that got under this past Friday. 84 teams are playing. Nine from Texas. Now you know.

If you like Christmas tunes and have the SiriusXM app, you can listen to Billboard’s Top 112 Christmas tunes. You will likely disagree with the rankings. They have Brenda Lee’s “”Rockin’ Around the Christmas Tree” at number 2. Ok.

Remember when I mentioned my lousy gift wrapping a week or so ago. Last week, “Today” had a segment on wrapping Christmas gifts.  It turns out Savannah and Hoda aren’t much better than Commentary. Yikes!

Michael Brantley signed a one-year deal with the Astros. That is very good news from The Yard.
