Again
We all know this is getting old. Here are how the Chron E-Board’s take starts today. First the headline:
Turner should make arbitration, not war, with Houston firefighters. (Editorial)
Here is the start:
In the six years since the contract between firefighters and the city of Houston expired, taxpayers have put up with — and bankrolled — a protracted legal fight that has made both sides look bad.
We’ve waited patiently for the tit-for-tat between Mayor Sylvester Turner and leaders of the Houston Professional Fire Fighters Association to play out. We’ve endured bargaining stalemates, charter amendments, lawsuits, Supreme Court decisions, and potshots from both sides in the press coverage, all the while assuming that, at some point, cooler heads would get in a room and hammer out a deal.
Here is the entire take: Turner can’t let it go, suing again over firefighters (Editorial) (houstonchronicle.com).
Everyone wants this settled. We have pretty much run out of road to kick the can. Again.
_____
We just went through a special session where absolutely nothing was accomplished. We also have a governor who is clueless as we start another special session.
_____
This is from today’s Chron:
Parents, children and educators clustered around cafeteria tables on Tuesday night at Forest Brook Middle School to listen to new Houston ISD superintendent Mike Miles and ask questions as he laid out his vision for their schools.
The gathering marked a departure from prior board meetings and community events that have grown heated in recent months, with few interruptions as Miles gave a presentation and audience members asked detailed questions about special education, dual-language instruction and other programs. Three board members, including Adam Rivon, Cassandra Auzenne Bandy and President Audrey Momanaee, attended the meeting and afterward talked with community members.
Here is the entire article: Mike Miles details HISD reforms like ‘Zoom Room’ punishment to parents (houstonchronicle.com).
Sounds like it was a productive meeting. That is good.
