No Stars

Ten concert goers got trampled to death back in 2021 at the Astroworld concert and nobody got criminally charged. Now that is a heartbreak.  I hope the civil lawsuits fare better.

The Parkland school security guard was found not guilty yesterday for not going after the shooter in 2018.

The DPS led army that sat around the classroom for an hour or so in Uvalde last year is breathing a sigh of relief.  Of course, we all know Texas is too much of a coward to charge the, uh, Uvalde cowards.

In case you are interested, I saw this in the Chron today:

Former state Sen. Carlos Uresti is set to be released from federal prison Friday after serving about four years and four months for securities fraud, money laundering and other crimes, his lawyer said Thursday. The release couldn’t be confirmed with other officials.

Uresti, 59, was sentenced to 12 years in federal prison, but a judge this year mysteriously reduced his term to five years and 10 months. As a result, Uresti’s prison term was slated to end Dec. 12, 2024.

It’s unclear what might have led to a further shortening of his sentence.

San Antonio attorney Mikal Watts, a longtime friend, announced Uresti’s release in a statement Thursday afternoon.

The former lawmaker’s release couldn’t be independently confirmed. A Federal Bureau of Prisons spokesperson had no information and referred a reporter to its website, which still showed that Uresti is set to be released at the end of next year.

Here is the entire story if you can get access: Lawyer: Former State Senator Carlos Uresti to be released early (houstonchronicle.com).

This guy is dirty.  Oh, well.

There are All Stars and there are no stars. Let’s see. The Astros are the defending World Series champions – the featured photo. The Astros don’t have any starters on the 2023 AL All Star team.  We do have a 44-37 record, which is a winning record. No respect? Are we still getting punished for 2017 crimes?

We are at the halfway point of the season, five games behind the Rangers in the AL West, and have a four-game series in Arlington that starts this evening.

It is June 30, a Friday, so I can say have a nice, safe, and lengthy Fourth of July weekend.
