Water Leak
In today’s Chron from the do we really need this department:
The 40-foot gleaming directional rings that help establish the elegant nature of the Uptown District will soon return to their aerial homes at key intersections.
Not only will the signs — part of the jewelry-like hardscape of the tony shopping/dining/working area — do their job of letting motorists know which street they’re on or are turning onto, they will also signal that years of construction work on Post Oak Boulevard are over.
“This is a culmination of things we’ve been working on for 30 years,” said John Breeding, president and CEO of Uptown Houston District and administrator of the Uptown Development Authority. “From when the rings originally went up, more than 30 years ago, we have done a lot of things: Sidewalks throughout, trees throughout. Lighting and streets with medians, trees and flowers. We have gone from a time when there were broken sidewalks to where you can walk around fairly easily, and you can do it under the shade of a tree.”
Work began to rebuild the street, create bus lanes, widen sidewalks and continue beautification efforts in 2016. Nearly seven years and about $185 million later, the Post Oak Boulevard project is done. The return of the rings — in a new, more high-tech form — are the sign of a new era. The first 40-foot ring at Post Oak and Westheimer will go up this week, with the remaining three rings following during the next year.
Uptown has to be uptown, I guess. That is why it is called Uptown, I also guess. There are the haves and there are the have nots.

Commentary finally got a hard copy water bill Friday, and it was substantially high. A doozy for sure. My highest water bill ever. For the past two months, water usage has been around 11,000 gallons per month. I reviewed my past water bills and I usually run into the 4,000 to 6,000 gallons range per month.
I decided to check out all my indoor and outdoor water faucets, showers, tub, water heater – everything. Could not find a sign of a leak.
I went to the water meter and opened it up and the dial was moving very slowly, and I didn’t have any water running. We shut off the water meter and the dial stopped moving.
We then shut off the valve that lets the water into my house and turned the water meter back on and the dial started moving again. With no water getting into the house, that meant there was a leak in the underground piping between the house and the water meter.
It was repaired yesterday. The water meter was turned on, no water was running, and the dial wasn’t moving.

Yordan Alvarez and Framber Valdez are All Stars again. Yordan won’t play because he is dinged up. Framber Valdez may be named starting pitcher. Cool.
We have taken 2 out of 3 in Arlington and wrap up the four-game series this afternoon.
