For Nick
My friend Nick Hellyar was endorsed by the Chron E-Board today. Here is from the endorsement:
In this notably strong field, Nick Hellyar stands out for the number of endorsements he’s received, but that also gave us pause. What exactly does he stand for if he can get such varied groups and individuals to back him, such as the Seafarers’ International Union and the Houston Apartment Association. He told us he has earned their trust by showing up, listening and finding common-ground solutions. When pressed for clarity about his priorities, he surprised us. Even though he’s a former Bike Houston board member, he criticized City Council’s recent vote to give the struggling BCycle bike sharing system a $500,000 lifeline. That money could have been used to hire more police officers, he told us. He’s also against the funny math the Turner administration used to drain millions from a drainage fund dedicated to rebuilding our infrastructure. His bicycling advocacy kicked back in, though, when he noted that after a street has been torn up for drainage, it makes sense to rebuild it safer for all users, whether they’re driving a car, bicycling, walking or rolling a wheelchair.
While this race abounds in qualified candidates, Hellyar is most focused on Houston’s core challenges and has the background to address broader quality of life issues as well.

On What’s Your Point yesterday, the neo-Nazi infiltration of the Texas GOP was brought up. Host Greg Groogan mentioned that Texas Democrats also associate with wackos but that kind of fell on deaf years. Dems don’t.

The featured photo is from last night before the game. Another Astros fan was wearing the exact same t-shirt that I had. It was the Chester Charge Killer Bs shirt I got as a giveaway many years ago.
I try not to question Dusty Baker. I will this morning. Game 1 of the ALCS and you bench Michael Brantley. That was not a very good move. Batting Jose Abreau in front of Kyle Tucker was also not a very good move. At some point we must ask if Martin Maldonado will start every game as catcher. I didn’t feel good when Machete batted with the bases loaded and two outs.
We have to bounce back this afternoon, or else.
