Public Swearing-In

Today is the public swearing-in for Mayor John Whitmire, City Controller Chris Hollins, and the Houston City Council members. It will be at 9:30 am at the Wortham Center downtown. I will be attending.

Afterwards, the Mayor will conduct his first City Council meeting and he will announce his Mayor Pro Tem selection and council will approve. He was mentioning to me at his home New Year’s Eve night which direction he was leaning on the Mayor Pro Tem selection. The discussion was private, so I won’t be divulging. Then the Mayor is going to greet H-Town residents at City Hall.

From the I didn’t even know he was still alive department. See this:

Shecky Greene, the legendary standup comedian known for his long tenure as a Las Vegas headliner and for working with Frank Sinatra and Elvis Presley, died Dec. 31 at his home in the city. He was 97.

Greene’s wife of 41 years, Marie Musso Greene, confirmed his death to the Las Vegas Review-Journal.

The Longhorns didn’t make it to the College Football Championship game next week in H-Town. If there is a consolation prize, the first week of the Mayor John Whitmire administration won’t have to deal with local Longhorn fans who supported or know Mayor Whitmire inundating the Mayor with requests to access to tickets to next week’s game at NRG. I was already hearing some buzz on that front a couple of days ago.

I don’t know any key Michigan or Washinton alumni who were big Mayor Whitmire supporters.

Commentary Christmas gifted Texans gear to a couple of family members.  I also got me some new Texans gear.  I will be wearing it for Saturday night’s prime time game against the Colts with the playoffs on the line.
