The Ban

From the he said he was going to eliminate rape in Texas department. See this from the Chron:

Texas saw an estimated 26,313 rape-related pregnancies during the 16 months after the state outlawed all abortions, with no exceptions for survivors of rape or incest, according to a study published Wednesday in the Journal of the American Medical Association.

That’s the highest estimate among the 14 states with total abortion bans, with Texas having the largest population, according to the study. The figure helps put the magnitude of the state’s laws into perspective, especially for those who can’t access abortion pills or travel out of state to receive abortion care, said one of the authors, Dr. Kari White of the Texas-based Resound Research for Reproductive Health.

Those estimates “are only going to increase while this total abortion ban is in effect,” White told the Chronicle. “And this really is impacting the people who have survived this experience in really profound ways.”

Here is the entire Chron read: More than 26K rape-related pregnancies estimated after Texas outlawed (houstonchronicle.com).

Here is what the arsehole Gov. Greg Abbott actually said:

“Texas will work tirelessly to make sure that we eliminate all rapists from the streets of Texas by aggressively going out and arresting them and prosecuting them and getting them off the streets.”

How is that going? Cruel moron.

Let’s see. The Texas Democratic Party Primary is on Tuesday, March 5, 2024. Early Voting in Person runs from Tuesday, February 20 through Friday, March 1. Monday, February 19 is Presidents’ Day, so Early Voting in Person can’t be held on a holiday.

The Special Election for State Senate District 15 is Saturday, May 4. Early Voting for the Special is Monday, April 22 through Tuesday, April 30.  The filing deadline to run in the Special is 5 pm, Monday, March 4, the day before the Primary Election. The winner of the Special will serve out the remainer of Mayor John Whitmire’s term which is December 31, 2024.

I have no idea who will end up filing out of the current SD 15 Primary Election candidates. Two Democratic candidates will advance to a May Primary Election runoff. Those that don’t make the runoff will most likely suspend their Special Election campaigns. Why bother.

Masters of the Air is an upcoming streaming flick about World War II bomber pilots in the European Theater. It stars Austin Butler and Callum Turner. They were being interviewed yesterday by Hoda Kotb and Jenna Bush Hager. Jenna told them that her grandfather was a fighter pilot during WWII, you know, 41.  Turner asked her how old he was and is he still alive. She replied that he had died. I will give Turner a pass, he’s a 33-year-old Brit.

Now that we are in Oscar season, here is a bit of trivia. Jodie Foster is up for Best Supporting Actress Oscar for Nyad.  The late Robbie Robertson is up for Best Original Score Oscar for Killers of the Flower Moon.  Jodie Foster and Robbie Robertson were in a film together called Carny back in 1980.

Carny is about the folks who run those traveling carnivals and how they live. Gary Busey is also in the flick. I saw the movie when it came out.

This was obviously early in Foster’s career, but she had already made Taxi Driver, Freaky Friday, and Bugsy Malone.

Robbie Robertson of course left us last year and was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame as a member of the Band.

Now you know.
