Nature’s Way

On this Earth Day, I always go back to my go-to favorite environmental tune. It doesn’t make anyone’s Top 25 best environmental tunes hits, but it’s on mine. It doesn’t get any run because the tune came out before we really got into environmental activism. Commentary is talking about “Nature’s Way” by Spirit’s Randy California.  Spirit was a band whose hey-day was in the late 1960s through early 1970s.

Their best tunes were “I Got a Line on You”, “Mechanical World,” “Fresh Garbage,” and of course “Nature’s Way.”

“Nature’s Way” was on Spirit’s “Twelve Dreams of Dr. Sardonicus” album released in 1970.  See the featured photo. The lyrics and melody of “Nature’s Way” are simple and a bit haunting.  Here is how the tune starts:

It’s nature’s way of telling you something’s wrong
It’s nature’s way of telling you in a song

It’s nature’s way of receiving you
It’s nature’s way of retrieving you
It’s nature’s way of telling you something’s wrong

It’s nature’s way of telling you, summer breeze
It’s nature’s way of telling you, dying trees

It’s nature’s way of receiving you
It’s nature’s way of retrieving you
It’s nature’s way of telling you something’s wrong

Have a nice Earth Day.

I got my water bill on Friday and was surprised to find out I got an adjusted credit, meaning I don’t have to pay anything this month.  I also get credit heading into next month. Over the weekend on KPRC Channel 2 they were promoting a piece by investigative/consumer reporter Amy Davis on explaining the adjusted credit water bills. I watched this morning and Amy reported it has to do with water usage during the freeze earlier this year. I will take it.

Go check out Amy’s story here: Why you may see a credit on your next Houston water bill (click2houston.com).

Early voting in person for the May 4 election and special election begins today.  It is a special election for State Senate District 15 voters. Anyone can vote who is registered. This isn’t the Democratic Party primary runoff. All Harris County voters get to vote on the three Harris Central Appraisal District Board of Directors positions.  Commentary has already sent in my mail ballot.

I also just mailed my Democratic Party primary runoff mail ballot that I received on Friday. I am good to go.

My family got together yesterday at my niece’s home up in Porter, about a 30-minute drive. On the way to Porter and back I listened to SiriusXM Channel 13, Taylor Swift’s version and heard her “Tortured Poets Department” tunes. Nice.

7-16. Yes, 7-16. Saturday’s game was painful to watch as Ryan Pressly blew a save opportunity in the ninth inning, and we lost in extras. Then yesterday we got the news that starting pitcher Christian Javier is dinged up and was placed on the injured list and will be out for at least 15 days, further decimating our pitching rotation.  Oh, well.
