Back

Commentary finally got power back late Saturday afternoon. That is close to five and a half days without power. That is like four and half days too long.  As of yesterday, err Sunday morning, CenterPoint still had me on the assessment list. Sigh.

Gov. Greg Abbott came to H-Town yesterday, six days after the storm hit.  See this from the Chron:

In his first public address since returning from Asia, Gov. Greg Abbott blamed CenterPoint Energy for endangering hundreds of thousands of lives with prolonged power outages in Houston after Hurricane Beryl.

At a news conference Sunday, the governor demanded the company make changes this month to avoid state intervention, including suggesting that CenterPoint’s vast Houston regional service territory could be reassessed.

“Because of extreme heat, because of the lack of power, there are lives at risk every single day,” Abbott said from a stage in Gallery Furniture on North Freeway shortly after 1 p.m. Sunday. “The failure of power companies to provide power to their customers is completely unacceptable.”

Sure, Governor. It has been over a week since the hurricane hit, and we still have a quarter of a million customers without power.  I am not counting on the Governor to take the lead on getting CenterPoint to up their game.

The only upside to losing everything in my fridge is that it made it easy to clean it this past weekend.

When I finally got power, including Xfinity and Wi-Fi, the first thing that came on the flat screen was the assassination attempt. I was glad to see the Democratic leadership united on condemning the act and violence. I was not surprised to see some GOP leaders blame President Joe Biden.
