The Games

Rain, rain, please go away. My power and internet were flickering this morning.  We all know CenterPoint and Xfinity have a fragile infrastructure, so I am expecting bad news.

Former President Barack Obama and former First Lady Michelle Obama endorsed Vice President Kamala Harris this morning.

The Chron has quotes from those who are considering going after the 18th Congressional District nomination. They are showing respect for the late Cong. Sheila Jackson Lee. See this:

Former Mayor Sylvester Turner:

“For these reasons, and out of immense respect for her family and all those who loved her, I will hold any announcement about my intentions until Friday, August 2.”

Former H-Town City Council Member Amanda Edwards:

“While my interest in serving this community remains unchanged, I want to honor and respect the sensitive timing of Congresswoman Jackson Lee’s passing, and I would prefer to discuss this at a later time.”

State Rep. Jarvis Johnson:

“In light of her recent passing, we approach this announcement with utmost care and reverence for her legacy. Given the tight timeline — Democratic party decisions looming within a month — we must continue meeting the people’s needs.”

Former H-Town City Council Member Dwight Boykins:

“I think it’s inappropriate to be campaigning for her seat before she is buried, so I’m not going to do it. I owe her the respect to at least let her be laid to rest before I officially make any announcement.”

Bishop James Dixon II

“Thinking about it very seriously and praying about it even more seriously.”

H-Town City Council Member Letitia Plummer:

We must take the time to honor her legacy and grieve her passing. In respect for her memory, I will refrain from discussing any potential interest in her vacant seat until after her funeral.”

The featured photo is the “Today” crew getting ready for the Opening Ceremony for the Paris Olympics.  Including today, The Games will be aired for 17 days.  I will watch as much as I can.

On a related note, the Summer Olympics and U.S. presidential campaigns take place in the same year, except for 2021 – the COVID games. Do presidential campaigns really take a back seat during the Olympic games? Not this year.
