Step-and-Repeat

This is just in:

The latest University of Texas/Texas Politics Project Poll finds former president Donald Trump leading Vice-President Kamala Harris 49% to 44% in a head-to-head match-up in the presidential race in Texas. Nine percent chose an unspecified “someone else,” and 6% were undecided. This result follows a June UT/Texas Politics Project Poll in which then-candidate Joe Biden trailed Trump by 7 points, 46% to 39%. The poll was conducted August 23-31 among 1200 registered voters, after the conclusion of the Democratic National Convention, and has a margin of error of +/- 2.83% for the full sample. (See the final pages of the poll summary document for detailed methodological information.)

In a multicandidate trial ballot including non-major party candidates, Trump and Harris received the same shares as in the head-to-head match up (49% and 44% respectively). Jill Stein was the choice of 2%, while Chase Oliver received less than one half of one percent, so was rounded down to zero; 6% were undecided.

The poll also registered an increase in Democrats’ enthusiasm about the 2024 election: 79% of Democrats were either “extremely” (52%) or very enthusiastic (27%) about voting in the 2024 election. These results represent an increase in both the degree and the intensity compared to the June UT/Texas Politics Project Poll, when 61% were enthusiastic (39% extremely enthusiastic, 22% very enthusiastic). Republican enthusiasm decreased slightly in both degree and intensity, from 77% either extremely (55%) or very enthusiastic (22%) in June to 49% extremely enthusiastic and 25% very enthusiastic in the latest survey.

In the race for the U.S. Senate, incumbent Republican Ted Cruz leads Democratic challenger Colin Allred 44% to 36%, with 2% preferring Libertarian Ted Brown, 4% choosing an unspecified “someone else,” and 14% undecided. Cruz led Allred 45% to 34% in the June UT/Texas Politics Project Poll.

Here is all the statement on the poll: Donald Trump maintains a lead in Texas but Kamala Harris narrows the gap amidst a surge in Democratic enthusiasm in new University of Texas/Texas Politics Project Poll | The Texas Politics Project (utexas.edu).

From USA Today:

U.S. employers added 142,000 jobs in August as hiring bounced back at least partly after temporary hurdles curtailed payroll gains the previous month and sparked recession fears.

The unemployment rate fell from 4.3% to 4.2%, the Labor Department said Friday.

That is also great news.

We finally got one. Commentary is talking about a Step-and-Repeat. See the featured photo with Mason, Erin, and Arely. Don’t worry. It was made by a local union shop. Sen. Carol Alvarado is hosting a major event for seniors next week and the office wanted a Step-and-Repeat for photos and stuff.

I picked it up yesterday and took it over to her office so we could figure out how to assemble it. I took us awhile. At minimum, it is a two-person job to set it up.

It is called a Step-and-Repeat because they were first used for red carpet events where the celebrity would “step” in front of the event sponsor’s logos and get photographed, then the next celebrity would step up and “repeat.” Got it?

_____

I ran across this tidbit yesterday. On game day, Travis Kelce always eats French toast and strawberries. I wonder if he is a maple syrup fella or Mrs. Butterworth’s.

I will admit it. I had the flatscreen on the Ravens-Chiefs game hoping to get a glimpse of Taylor. I was not disappointed. It was also a great game that came down to the last toe.

_____

Commentary has said it before. Sometimes watching the team play can be frustrating. We swept a contending team at The Yard this past weekend. We got swept by a non-contending team in Cincy this week. Our lead in the AL West is down to 4 ½ games. We host a contender, the D-Backs, at The Yard this weekend. Oh yeah, there are four weekends of baseball remaining in the regular season.
