H-Town Mayor John Whitmire has said that he wants to root out corruption at City Hall before he considers raising our property taxes. KPRC Channel 2 investigative/consumer reporter Amy Davis is certainly helping the Mayor identify corruption. See this from her latest story:
Public trust, private deals. KPRC 2 Investigator Amy Davis continues the investigation into the Houston Housing Authority’s questionable contracts.
The latest project in question: A deal to install window AC units at three Houston housing projects.
The Houston Housing Authority (HHA) embarked on a project to install 1,615 window air conditioning (AC) units across three local housing projects, originally budgeting $2.3 million. However, the final cost ballooned to more than $5.4 million—leaving many questions about the use of public funds and who benefited from the extra costs.
This investigation sheds light on why the project, known as the “Heat Relief Project,” cost taxpayers millions more than anticipated. Despite multiple requests, HHA President and CEO David Northern, who previously discussed the project, is now declining further comment.

Pitiful. How does this even happen? Who is looking after our tax dollars? Thanks, Amy.

Texas Monthly just put out a lengthy piece on immigrant labor in Texas. I don’t need to read it. I have been saying it for years. I have also been living it all year. The house across the street from me has been completely rebuilt with Latinos doing all the work. It started late last year, and the house is still being worked on.
Another house at the end of the block was demolished a couple of months ago and a new house is under construction using Latino labor. All Latino labor.
The folks who do yard and lawn maintenance in Commentary’s neighborhood are mostly Latino.
After the Derecho and Beryl hit us in May and July, the clean-up crews were mostly Latino.
If we don’t have Latino labor in these parts, we don’t have much of an economy.

On “Today” this morning there was a segment on Halloween deals. It turns out last year folks in the USA spent $12.2 billion on Halloween. See the featured photo. I guess that is a lot of dough. Commentary doesn’t do costumes or decorations. I just buy funs size candy bars to give out to Trick or Treaters. Butterfinger, Snickers, 3 Musketeers, Baby Ruth – you get the picture. I buy the kind that I like because I always eat what I don’t give out. Best I can tell, not too many folks on our street hand out candy on Halloween. Oh, well.

There is nothing wrong with this. See this from the “Today” website:
Heidi Klum and her daughter Leni’s new lingerie ad is giving some people “the ick.”
The supermodel and her 20-year-old daughter Leni, who is also a model, appeared in a new ad campaign for Intimissimi, an Italian clothing company.
In the ad, the beauties pose on a couch wearing bra-and-underwear sets and photograph each other, laughing and spinning around.
