Judge Hidalgo for HISD Bonds
Christmas Day is two months from today. Start getting ready.
_____
Election Day is eleven days from today. I am ready.
_____
The quote of the week has to go to CNN commentator Van Jones. Here is what he said the other day:
“Kamala Harris and Donald Trump are not taking the same exam. And I think it bothers people. They’re not taking the same exam. He gets to be lawless. She has to be flawless. That’s what’s unfair.”
I could not agree more.
_____
Mattress Mack is holding a Trump rally today to counter the Vice President Kamala Harris rally that will be held at Shell Energy Stadium this afternoon. Mack’s rally will be held at Gallery Furniture off I-45 North. I am guessing Mack is a smart fella. I am also guessing he knows he doesn’t need Commentary’s dollars to be a success. Mack has embraced full MAGA. He knows who customer is and it is not local activist Democrats.

There is a Chron hard copy article on past presidential campaign visits to Texas right before Election Day. The piece mentions Bill Clinton’s visit to H-Town’s Sam Houston Park in 1992. They don’t mention George McGovern’s visit to H-Town’s Hermann Park in 1972 that I attended.
I was part of the entourage that travelled with Jimmy Carter at a couple of campaign stops, including in front of the Alamo, in 1976. I helped put together a Walter Mondale rally in Corpus Christi in 1984 that featured Jose Feliciano singing the National Anthem. In 2000, when I was working on the presidential campaign in New Mexico, I worked at an Al Gore rally in Las Cruces a week or so before the election.
I will be skipping today’s rally.
I just saw this tweet:
It’s 9 a.m. and there’s already a line at shell stadium

Harris County Judge Lina Hidalgo is supporting the HISD bonds. See this from the Chron:
Harris County Judge Lina Hidalgo threw guarded support behind the facility improvements that are part of Houston ISD’s $4.4 billion bond proposal Thursday afternoon, while urging the district’s state-appointed leadership to do a better job listening to the community.
Hidalgo spoke with concerned community members at the Houston Federation of Teachers’ town hall and toured Benavidez Elementary Thursday, which would receive sweeping upgrades if the bond proposal passes Nov. 5.
And this:
Hidalgo, who opposed the district’s state takeover in 2023, said she would continue to push for more community involvement, including bringing voices with differing opinions into the District Advisory Committee and reinstating regular superintendent consultation with the district’s teachers unions.
“I see no downside to an investment in infrastructure-particularly safety infrastructure at a time when school tragedies are all too common,” Hidalgo said. “No student should have to learn under poor conditions and inadequate security, whether under a fairly elected board or an unfairly appointed one that I believe is fundamentally anti-democratic.”
Here is the entire Chron article: Judge Lina Hidalgo supports Houston ISD’s $4.4B bond proposal.
It is good to see Judge Hidalgo support the HISD bonds.

Coming to Downtown H-Town. See this from the Chron:
By the time the 2026 FIFA World Cup comes to Houston, a seven-block stretch of Main Street is expected to be a car-free, pedestrian walkway lined with retail, patios and greenery.
Downtown Houston, the organization leading the $12 million project, is unveiling its final design and renderings this week for the Main Street Promenade.
The project would comprise seven blocks of Main — from Rusk to Commerce, near Allen’s Landing, said Cassie Hoeprich, director of planning at Downtown Houston. The promenade would feed into sections of Main Street, from Dallas to Walker, which are already closed to traffic. Red Line Metro trains would continue along Main, as would cross-street traffic at intersections.
Here is the entire read: Downtown Houston reveals Main Street Promenade pedestrian mall plans.
It is good that cross-street traffic will be allowed. I would not want my route to The Yard altered.
