Playoffs
Former President Jimmy Carter is 100 years old today. Happy Birthday, Mr. President! I have a picture of me shaking hands with the President at the Hyatt Regency in a visit to H-Town when he was president. The picture is framed and hanging on a wall here. I have said it before. President Carter was the last Democrat to carry Texas in a presidential election back in 1976. Commentary was the Deputy Campaign Director for the statewide Democratic Party effort that year. That was 48 years ago.
President Carter is a huge fan of The ATL. I am sure he is happy The ATL made it to the playoffs.

If you are an old school MLB fan like Commentary, this is good to hear:
Major League Baseball is making what should be a popular change to the All-Star Game, or at the very least, how that game looks.
MLB announced Monday that players will once again wear team uniforms at the All-Star Game starting in 2025. The league will still have a special All-Star uniform, but it will only be worn by players during on-field workouts and at the Home Run Derby when not participating.
This is a change that will likely be lauded by fans and players alike. Fans, in particular, have called for this change for years, as this was largely how the All-Star Game was done up until 2021, when Nike and MLB began partnering to create special uniforms. They were never popular with fans and derided as a cash grab, but commissioner Rob Manfred was dismissive of calls for change. His tone started to shift after the most recent All-Star Game, when even some players said they would prefer to go back to how things were.

Neither of last year’s World Series participants made the playoffs.
No Rangers. No D-Backs.

The first time the Astros made the MLB playoffs was in 1980 against the Phillies in the NLCS. Pete Rose, who left us yesterday, played first base for the Phillies. Pete went 8 for 20 – all singles – and batted .400 in that series against us. He also had 2 RBIs, walked five times, struck out three times, scored three runs, and was caught stealing twice. That Phillies team also included future Hall of Famers third baseman Mike Schmidt and pitcher Steve Carlton. The Phillies won that series 3 games to 2.
Pete Rose is not in the Hall of Fame.

Now that we are facing the Tigers this afternoon, the Angels, Blue Jays, and Orioles are the only AL teams we have not faced in the playoffs.
Since you asked, the Brewers, Cubbies, D-Backs, Giants, Marlins, Pirates, Reds, and Rockies are the NL teams we have not faced in the playoffs.
Framber will start today for the Astros and that is why he is the featured photo today.
Playoffs! October baseball in H-Town. Again. Go Astros!
