Keep Bregman

Hello, November. That means Election Day is in four days.

Donald Trump said last night that former GOP Cong. Liz Cheney should be executed. Go on ahead and vote for this POS MFer.

There isn’t much else to say. The last day of Early Voting in Person is today. Let’s get it done, folks.

Talk about free speech and your first amendment. See this Chron story:

Members of the local Democratic party in rural, bright red Fayette County were thrilled this month when they learned their hours of phone banking and fundraising would finally pay off.

The party’s record $9,000 haul was more than enough to fund a large billboard for Vice President Kamala Harris along Highway 71, the well-trafficked road that connects Houston to Austin, party chair Mary Wolf said.

But their excitement was short-lived. Just two days after the ad went up, SignAd, the Houston-based billboard company, reached out to party volunteer Becky Schenker to say the landowner had received threats and complaints. It had to come down.

“I said, ‘Well now you know what it’s like to be a Democrat in this county,’” Schenker recalled of the conversation. “Our goal in this advertising campaign is largely to make the point that Democrats do exist in our county and we are here and we do not want to be intimidated.”

SignAd did not respond to a request for comment. John Ewald, owner of the Kubota farm equipment dealership that leases land to the billboard company, said in an email Wednesday that the business did not receive any threats but did receive “calls from customers asking why we were endorsing one candidate over another.”

The billboard is roughly the same height as Kubota’s sign and stands parallel just several yards away.

Fayette County, home to about 25,000, came out overwhelmingly for Donald Trump in the last election and is situated in a heavily Republican part of the state.

“Because our dealership is neutral in political affairs, we remain focused on taking care of our customers,” Ewald wrote. “We informed the billboard company of the customer concerns and requested they not display any political messages, regardless of party affiliation.”

Here is the entire story: A Texas Democratic group put up a Harris billboard in Trump country. It lasted a week.

Looks like some Fayette County GOPers are a bit nervous heading into next Tuesday.

I ran across this yesterday:

Legendary baseball broadcaster Bob Costas is retiring from play-by-play announcing, Andrew Marchand of The Athletic reports. Marchand writes that Costas has confirmed the news but said he would make his own announcement in the future.

Costas, 72, has been broadcasting Major League Baseball games since 1980 and, over the decades, has become one of the sport’s most immediately recognizable voices. More recently, Costas has served as MLB Network’s lead game broadcaster for its entire existence, and he’s also called playoff games for TNT. If Costas is indeed done with play-by-play duties, then his call of ALDS Game 4 between the New York Yankees and the Kansas City Royals would be his last. Costas will continue with limited MLB Network duties, according to Marchand, but those duties won’t include play-by-play broadcasting.

Prior to next season, TNT will find a new lead game broadcaster for the regular-season and playoff games to which it has rights.

In 2018, Costas was chosen to receive the Ford C. Frick Award for broadcast excellence from the Baseball Hall of Fame.

Bob Costas will still be around, just not in the TV booth.

There wasn’t much trick or treat activity on my block yesterday. I have a lot of candy that I didn’t give out.

The Astros have the next few days to sign Alex Bregman. It would be a shame if they let him get away. The Chron hard copy has a lengthy story today on what it may take to keep Breggy. He was our top draft pick and the second player taken overall in the 2015 MLB Draft. That is why he wears the number 2. He made his MLB debut the next season, 2016.  He has been a mainstay of the team’s success for the past eight years. He has two World Series rings and 19 postseason dingers. Letting Bregman go to another team would hurt us more than when we didn’t sign George Springer and Carlos Correa. We will know next Monday what direction the Astros will head on the Alex Bregman situation. Breggy is the featured photo in hope that we keep him in the orange and blue.
