Hoda’s Last Day

Today is Hoda Kotb’s last day on “Today.” She had a great run. Kermit the Frog made an appearance this morning and serenaded her with “Rainbow Connection.” Cool. The featured photo is all the “Today” anchors, minus Shenelle.

Commentary has been watching “Today” for decades. It is what I do every morning. It is where I get my news when I wake up.

Thank you, Hoda.

Chron columnist Chris Tomlinson thinks H-Town selling water to the State of Texas is a bad idea. Here are the headlines to his column:

Gov. Abbott and Mayor Whitmire resurrect an old scheme to sell Houston’s water to West Texas

Gov. Greg Abbott and Houston Mayor John Whitmire float a harebrained scheme to sell the city’s water to West Texas.

Here is the first sentence of the column:

Texans have an epic history of negligence and waste when it comes to water, and now that the state is facing the consequences, here comes Gov. Greg Abbott and Houston Mayor John Whitmire with an epically bad idea.

Here is the entire column: Abbott-Whitmire plan to sell Houston water to West Texas is foolish.

Here is from the column that is wrong:

In 1953, the courts further granted Clayton Williams Sr., whose junior would become governor, the right to dry up Fort Stockton’s Comanche Springs through over-pumping.

Clayton Williams, Jr. ran for governor in 1990 and lost to Ann Richards. Maybe it should have been whose junior would want to become governor.

A loss is a loss. In California this morning, folks are watching their homes get destroyed by fires. We can relate. Here along the Gulf Coast, we have seen homes destroyed by hurricane force winds and floods. Folks in other parts of the country have had their homes blown away by tornadoes. A loss is a loss.

_____

It is pathetic and yet expected that MAGA types are blaming the California governor and other Democrats in elected office for the LA area fires. Sad. They continue to deny climate change.

_____

Let’s see. Here in the USA, we deal with the aftermath of floods, storms, blizzards, hurricanes, tornadoes, and wildfires on a near daily basis. We are in a constant catch-up mode responding to these disasters. Not to mention the costs to local, state and our federal budgets. Plus, don’t forget rising insurance premiums. Now Donald Trump and some of his MAGA idiots want to acquire Greenland and take on their ice loss and rising sea levels problems. Yeah, right.

Chron sports columnist Kirk Bohls is picking the Buckeyes over the Longhorns this evening, 34-27.

The Texans host the Chargers in the Wild Card Round at NRG, 3:30 pm, tomorrow.

And this from the Chron:

The Houston Astros reached 2025 salary agreements with all eight of their arbitration-eligible players, a group including ace Framber Valdez, prior to Thursday’s deadline.

Houston also agreed to terms with third baseman Isaac Paredes, shortstop Jeremy Peña, outfielders Chas McCormick and Jake Meyers, utilityman Mauricio Dubón and pitchers Bryan Abreu and Luis Garcia.

Good.
