Snow Day

I must give a major thumbs up to the local coverage of the snow and weather provided by KPRC Channel 2 News yesterday. They were just about non-stop throughout the day.  Reporters were stationed across the region including Beaumont, Baytown, Sugar Land, and Eleanor Tinsley and Hermann Parks.

They reported on road closures, snowman building, snowball fights, sledding down hills, and a Waffle House in Baytown serving hungry customers.

I think most H-Town area folks listened to our local leaders and stayed off of the roads.

Even though it is still freezing, I guess we are sort of back to normal this morning. Local Channel 2 coverage gave way to “Today” at the regularly scheduled 7 am start.

Nice job on covering snow day, Channel 2.

Here is some useful info from the Chron today:

H-E-B: The company announced stores in the Greater Houston area will open at 10 a.m. Wednesday. Houston area stores connected with H-E-B such as Central Market, Joe V’s Smart Shop and Mi Tienda will also open at 10 a.m. 

Kroger: The Cincinnati-based grocery chain said in the release that, due to the freeze, its stores will open at 10 a.m. Wednesday as opposed to 6 a.m. Pharmacy hours will vary by location, according to the release. 

On my Ring app yesterday, some folks were asking if certain establishments were open for grub and stuff. Why don’t they just look up the establishment and give them a call.

This is Section 1 of the 14th Amendment to the U.S. Constitution:

Section 1.

All persons born or naturalized in the United States, and subject to the jurisdiction thereof, are citizens of the United States and of the state wherein they reside. No state shall make or enforce any law which shall abridge the privileges or immunities of citizens of the United States; nor shall any state deprive any person of life, liberty, or property, without due process of law; nor deny to any person within its jurisdiction the equal protection of the laws.

I don’t think you can remove this language from the U.S. Constitution by an Executive Order or congressional legislation.

We all know there are tons of Prince Harry and Meghan, Duchess of Sussex, haters out there. I wonder what they think of the following story:

LONDON (AP) — Prince Harry claimed a monumental victory Wednesday as Rupert Murdoch’s U.K. tabloids made an unprecedented apology for intruding in his life over decades and agreed to pay substantial damages to settle his privacy invasion lawsuit.

News Group Newspapers offered a “full and unequivocal apology to the Duke of Sussex for the serious intrusion by The Sun between 1996 and 2011 into his private life, including incidents of unlawful activities carried out by private investigators,” Harry’s attorney, David Sherborne, read from a statement in court.

The statement even went beyond the scope of the lawsuit to acknowledge intruding on the life of Harry’s mother, the late Princess Diana.

“We acknowledge and apologize for the distress caused to the duke, and the damage inflicted on relationships, friendships and family, and have agreed to pay him substantial damages,” the settlement statement said.

Congratulations to former Astros closer Billy Wagner. He will be heading to Cooperstown to get inducted into the Baseball Hall of Fame. Billy was an Astro from 1995-2003 and wore the number 13.
