Baffling
I found this quite baffling. This is on the front page of today’s Chron hard copy:
Gov. Greg Abbott has asked the Texas Education Agency to investigate after a local Moms for Liberty chapter alleged that teachers at Houston ISD’s Bellaire High School have been “socially transitioning” a student.
Has Gov. Abbott’s staff told him that TEA is running HISD these days? Last week, Abbott admitted that he wanted to defund public schools. Now he wants TEA to investigate themselves. What is wrong with this fella. Clueless.

Personally, the cuts coming out of the federal government are not impacting me at this point. Maybe if I board a flight, I should be worried. See this from the KTRK Channel 13 website:
WASHINGTON — The Trump administration has begun firing several hundred Federal Aviation Administration employees, upending staff on a busy air travel weekend and just weeks after a January fatal mid-air collision at Ronald Reagan Washington National Airport.
Probationary workers were targeted in late-night emails Friday notifying them they had been fired, David Spero, president of the Professional Aviation Safety Specialists union, said in a statement.
The impacted workers include personnel hired for FAA radar, landing and navigational aid maintenance, one air traffic controller told the Associated Press. The air traffic controller was not authorized to talk to the media and spoke on condition of anonymity.
Spero said messages began arriving after 7 p.m. on Friday and continued late into the night. More might be notified over the long weekend or barred from entering FAA buildings on Tuesday, he said.
The employees were fired “without cause nor based on performance or conduct,” Spero said, and the emails were “from an ‘exec order’ Microsoft email address” – not a government email address.
The firings hit the FAA when it faces a shortfall in controllers. Federal officials have been raising concerns about an overtaxed and understaffed air traffic control system for years, especially after a series of close calls between planes at U.S. airports. Among the reasons they have cited for staffing shortages are uncompetitive pay, long shifts, intensive training and mandatory retirements.

There really is no logical way to explain the cuts. New see this that:
The Trump administration has halted the firings of hundreds of workers in nuclear weapons programs, with experts cautioning that a new cost-cutting task force will put communities at risk.
US officials said up to 350 employees at the National Nuclear Security Administration (NNSA) were abruptly laid off on Thursday.
According to the officials, some employees lost access to their email before they had learnt that they were fired and were locked out of their offices on Friday morning.
The officials spoke on the condition of anonymity for fear of retaliation.
The Pantex Plant office in Texas was one of the hardest hit offices and saw about 30 per cent of the cuts.
Those employees work on reassembling warheads, one of the most sensitive jobs across the nuclear weapons enterprise, with the highest levels of clearance.
The hundreds let go at NNSA were part of a Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE) purge across the Department of Energy (DOE), which has targeted about 2,000 employees.
Arms Control Association executive director Daryl Kimball said DOGE employees are “coming in with absolutely no knowledge of what these departments are responsible for”.
“They don’t seem to realize that it’s actually the department of nuclear weapons more than it is the Department of Energy,” he said.

I really don’t where all these cuts are headed. I also don’t know how our Democratic Party leadership in Congress will respond.

There were a lot of memorable moments last night on the “SNL” 50th anniversary special. Mine was Miley Cyrus and Brittany Howard performing “Nothing Compares 2 U.” The tune was written by Prince but hit the charts when it was recorded by Sinead O’Connor. Cyrus once had a feud with O’Connor, and we all know what O’Connor did on “SNL.”

Alex Bregman posted this Friday evening:
“Dear Houston,
From the moment I put on an Astros uniform, I felt the love, the passion, and the energy of this city.
“Together, we became champions—on and off the field. Eight playoff appearances, seven ALCS appearances, four World Series appearances, and two World Series titles. … We’ve faced adversity together, and that’s what makes this city and this team so special. That strength is embedded in the heart of every single person who is lucky enough to call Houston home.
“To the Astros Organization — thank you for believing in me, for pushing me to be my best, and for giving me the opportunity to live out my dream. To my teammates—you made every day at the ballpark unforgettable, and I will always cherish the memories we created together, both on and off the field. We are family. To the fans — thank you for every cheer, every chant, and every moment of support. I will never take our time together for granted.”
New Red Sox player Bregman will wear the number 2.
