The Mayor
This is the headline of the online Chron E-Board take today on another challenge H-Town Mayor John Whitmire is facing:
Houston audit reveals a bloated, inefficient city government. Now Whitmire must trim the fat | Editorial

This is how the E-Board take ends:
Whitmire is attempting to earn the public’s trust by getting Houston’s house in order before asking voters to raise their own property taxes. That’s not just politically astute; it’s the right thing to do. Ultimately, however, voters don’t just want a lean and balanced budget. They want a city where the streets are not crumbling, where burst water mains aren’t left leaking for weeks, where garbage bins aren’t left overflowing at neighborhood parks.
Plenty of Houstonians want even more than that. We’re impatient for visionary leadership, but these days, we’ve come to see that smart, fair and responsible bean counting can count as vision, too.
Here is the entire E-Board take: John Whitmire must cut wasteful spending in bloated Houston government.
The Mayor has been in office for just under 14 months and he has had to take on major problems. He is not ducking or kicking the can down the road. I can’t remember an H-Town mayor that came into office and had to deal with the issues this mayor has had to confront.

I had to say adios to a longtime provider yesterday. They didn’t value loyalty. They imposed a significant rate hike, and a company representative gave me a weak explanation. They also had me text back and forth with a computer that kept going around in circles. It was very frustrating. So, I said adios.

Remember when former Astro Yuli Gurriel did something stupid about Dodger pitcher Yu Darvish during the 2017 World Series. Yuli got a five-game suspension to start the 2018 season. We forgot about it then. Now Yuli and Darvish are on the Padres and are teammates. So, now we are talking about the 2017 incident again.
Justin Verlander is 42 today. Justin won two AL Cy Young Awards and two World Series rings as an Astro. He is now with the Giants. Happy Birthday, Justin!
