War Plans

Remember in 2016 when GOP congressional leaders exhaustively investigated former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton over her use of a private email server. Their investigations turned up zilch. It was still a dumb move by Sec. Clinton.

The editor-in-chief for The Atlantic was texted war plans by the current defense secretary. MAGA leaders in congress let out a collective yawn. They were only war plans that were carried out a couple of hours later.

MAGA operates under their own set of rules which are no rules if you know what I mean.

The Chron has the latest on the Texans and NRG.

Houston Texans president Mike Tomon said this to the Chron:

“We’re not leaving greater Houston. Emphatically, we are here. That’s not an option on the table for us to go somewhere else. But beyond that, inside of that, we are focused in on the renovation.”

The “not leaving greater Houston” means that if they don’t get what they want at NRG, they could possibly look at shaking down another area county or municipality. Good luck with that.

The Chron’s Chris Tomlinson has an interesting take on the THC fight up at our State Capitol.

Here is the headline of the Tomlinson take:

Texas’ THC ban is unlikely to pass. Expect lawsuits harassing shops while sales persist

Here is how the take starts:

Sorry, Lt. Gov. Dan Patrick, consumable cannabis is not going anywhere, no matter how many business owners you try to bully or laws you seek to impose.

Even if you pass your priority bill to ban THC, the intoxicating ingredient in cannabis plants, Texans are still going to get high. They have since at least the 1890s, and they always will.

More than 50 years after President Richard Nixon’s war on drugs, prohibitionists like Patrick still don’t understand they cannot enforce their fundamentalist values on others. All they do is ruin lives and waste taxpayer’s money.

Last week, Patrick strutted into the press conference room at the Texas Senate, where he rules with an iron fist. He threatened laws and lawsuits against businesses that sell THC products, such as delta-8 and delta-9 gummies.

“My recommendation is if you’re watching – I know a lot of people are watching out there who are in this business – you might want to voluntarily close your doors,” Patrick said. “Because the investigations are going to continue, and I’m sure the lawsuits are about to come.”

Patrick’s conservative allies are collecting evidence to harass shops that sell THC products with civil lawsuits. I expect they will target small operations without the resources to fight back.

Christian nationalists are taking their jihad against cannabis to court because they are unlikely to win in the Legislature. The Texas House of Representatives is less worried about reefer madness and more protective of the hemp industry, which employs 50,000 people and generates $8 billion in revenues.

Here is the entire Tomlinson take: Texas THC ban faces opposition, so conservatives move to courts.

Let’s see Lt. Gov. Patrick will bully his way to destroying 50,000 jobs in Texas.

Commentary put this out a month ago:

I must admit that I get somewhat annoyed when “Today” promotes on the program the books that their hosts author, their guest appearances on other TV talk shows, their podcasts, where they go on their vacations, and even this morning, former co-host Hoda Kotb showing up a Savannah Guthrie book signing in New Jersey and hugging and gushing. Last month, “Today” devoted an entire week to a Hoda going away party. Nope. They showed Hoda at the Super Bowl. It gets annoying.  It is a bit too much.

I guess “Today” doesn’t check out Commentary. “Today” was promoting a book this morning authored by Jenna Bush Hager and her twin sister Barbara. Oh, well.

Speaking of “Today”, from the we’ve come a long way from Clearasil department, that is Al Roker in the featured photo from last week wearing a mask that is used for skin care.
