Churro Peeps

Folks know by now about Commentary’s disappointment with the national media. I only watch the national news on “Today” in the morning these days. No MSNBC, no CNN, no talk shows, nada. I was glad to hear about this yesterday morning:

Journalist Alex Thompson called out the press for failing to properly report on former President Joe Biden’s declining health at the White House Correspondents’ Dinner on Saturday.

Thompson, a reporter for Axios, accepted the White House Correspondents’ Association’s Aldo Beckman Award for Overall Excellence in White House Coverage. His reporting closely documented Biden’s disastrous debate performance against President Donald Trump, the events leading up to it, and Biden’s eventual decision to exit the race. In his acceptance speech, Thompson acknowledged that the press fell short in covering the story of Biden’s decline.

“Being truth tellers also means telling the truth about ourselves. We, myself included, missed a lot of this story,” Thompson said, speaking before a room of journalists from major news outlets.

He added, “President Biden’s decline and its cover-up by the people around him is a reminder that every White House, regardless of party, is capable of deception.”

Following Biden’s withdrawal from the race, several journalists admitted they had not sufficiently scrutinized the president’s health. Concerns mounted after Biden’s debate performance, when viewers noted his rambling answers and raspy voice.

Thompson said the media’s failure to investigate and report more aggressively on Biden’s condition contributed to growing public distrust of journalism.

“Some people trust us less because of it,” he said. “We bear some responsibility for faith in the media being at such lows. I say this because acknowledging errors builds trust, and being defensive about them further erodes it.”

He concluded with a stark admission: “We should have done better.”

Yep. They should have done better. Here is his line that stands out: “every White House, regardless of party, is capable of deception.” I wonder if any Biden high ranking staffers attended the dinner Saturday evening. I am also disappointed in our national Democratic Party leaders for continuing to avoid talking about Biden’s decline and the Biden staff who covered this up. Shame on them.

Here we go again. See this from the Chron:

Gov. Greg Abbott signed a bill Wednesday creating an agency mimicking Elon Musk’s Department of Government Efficiency, or DOGE, according to a news release sent Wednesday afternoon.

Senate Bill 14 was authored by more than a dozen Republican lawmakers including Houston-area state Sen. Paul Bettencourt and mandates the creation of the Texas Regulatory Efficiency Office. Abbott said in the release that the office will function as Texas’ DOGE and is geared toward checking the growth of what he called “the administrative state.”

“We in Texas will now have our own DOGE, known as the Texas Regulatory Efficiency Office. This law will slash regulations, put stricter standards on new regulations that could be costly to businesses, and put a check on the growth of the administrative state,” Abbott said in the release. “This will make government more efficient and less costly, ensuring that Texas operates at the speed of business.”

The Texas Regulatory Office will be run by an advisory panel appointed by the governor, according to the bill’s text. The panel, which will be overseen by a presiding officer also appointed by the governor, will be tasked with identifying efficiencies in the state’s rule-making and regulatory review processes.

This is a joke. The GOP has been running the Texas state government for over a couple of decades now. This is an “administrative state” that they created. This is only happening because of what the DOGE dog fella is doing in DC. What a joke for sure.
