Sadness at Studio 1A
Folks know Commentary watches “Today” every morning. It is a sad morning in Studio 1A this Friday. See this that just came out:
Uche Ojeh, Sheinelle Jones’ husband of 17 years, has died following a battle with brain cancer. He was 45.
“With profound sadness, we share this morning that Uche Ojeh, the husband of our friend and TODAY co-host Sheinelle Jones, has passed away after a courageous battle with an aggressive form of brain cancer called glioblastoma,” Savannah Guthrie said on TODAY May 23.
And this:
“There are no words for the pain we feel for Sheinelle and their three young children. Uche was an incredible person. We all loved him. And so we want to take a moment to tell you more about the remarkable man who was Sheinelle’s perfect partner in life.”
Here is the entire story: Uche Ojeh, Sheinelle Jones’ Husband, Has Died of Brain Cancer.
I kind of suspected something like this was happening. Sheinelle has not been on the air since last December. It was sad to watch Savannah announce and narrate the news and story this morning.
It reminds me of the time back in 1998 when “Today” Co-Host Katie Couric’s husband Jay Monahan passed and Katie took time off.
I certainly feel for Sheinelle and her family. See the featured photo.

This was kind of expected. See this from the Chron:
Commissioners voted Thursday against sending Harris County Judge Lina Hidalgo and several of her staff members to Paris as part of a trade mission.
Hidalgo presented a revised proposal that cut the cost of the mission by roughly half of her original request, which was pegged at around $23,000. But commissioners again declined to fund the mission, with only Commissioner Rodney Ellis and Hidalgo voting to support it.
Oh, well.
This is from a Chron story on Harris County budget issues we will be facing:
Commissioners voted to approve a motion introduced by (Commissioner Tom) Ramsey that mandated the county bring deputies’ salaries in line with HPD’s by fiscal year 2026, despite having no immediate plans on how they would pay for it.
By committing to increase pay for law enforcement, county officials will be forced to find ways to reduce spending, Ramsey said.
“That’s the reason I made the motion, not to decide today how we’re going to figure what we’re going to do, or what we’re going to stop doing,” Ramsey said. “But I believe in Harris County, we’ve got a spending problem, not a revenue problem, and so my motion stands as stated.”
(Harris County Judge Lina) Hidalgo and Commissioner Rodney Ellis both opposed the motion, saying they could not support a raise for law enforcement without a funding plan.
Another 3-2 vote with Judge Hidalgo and Commissioner Ellis on the losing side twice. I wonder if this is going to be a trend. I wonder if this is a good trend.
