Talking Down
Folks know that Commentary watches Fox 26’s “What’s Your Point” on Sunday mornings. I don’t watch it to get informed. I watch it to point out when some of the MAGA panelists misinform viewers
“What’s Your Point” host Greg Googan certainly has it in for Harris County Judge Lina Hidalgo and the Democratic majority Harris County Commissioners Court in general. They are frequent targets on Sunday mornings.
Recently, H-Town Mayor John Whitmire proposed a major significant pay raise for Houston police officers that the Houston Police Officers Union overwhelmingly voted to accept. Now the Harris County sheriff deputies want a pay raise.
On yesterday’s “What’s Your Point,” Groogan led the effort to call out Judge Hidalgo and her Democratic colleagues on Commissioners Court for shortchanging the Harris County sheriff deputies on their salaries. Fair enough.
But stop talking down to your viewers. Why not mention that Mayor Whitmire is a progressive Democrat and the Democratic majority on the Commissioners Court ought to follow the lead of their fellow Democrat at City Hall.
And why not point out when was the last time a local government led by MAGA elected officials gave a major significant pay raise to their police officers. Again, stop talking down to your viewers.

This is how the Chron E-Board starts today’s take:
Last week, I asked your thoughts on Texas’ new $1 billion school-voucher program. More than 90% of your responses were opposed to the program — many vehemently so. Here (lightly edited) is some of what you had to say. — Lisa Gray
Sure enough. They posted 10 letters-to-the-editor. Nine against vouchers and one for.
Go read the letters-to-the-editor here: What Texans think about school vouchers: ‘Ridiculous’ and worse.

Do you know your H-Town neighbors? See this from the Chron:
The largest city in Texas is also its top spot for millionaires, according to an annual ranking of the world’s wealthiest cities.
There are 81,800 millionaires living in Houston, according to an annual report from Henley & Partners, a London-based investment migration consultancy, and New World Wealth, a global wealth intelligence firm headquartered in South Africa. That ranks Houston as the No. 17 city in the world for millionaires, just above Dubai, in the United Arab Emirates, which is home to 81,200.
Houston is also home to 210 centimillionaires, or people with assets of at least $100 million, the report found.
Here is the entire millionaire’s row article: Houston is one of the world’s top cities for millionaires in 2025.
I wonder how many of the 81,800 visit Daikin Park and spend close to $20 for a Saint Arnold.

Astros pitcher Lance McCullers, Jr. is struggling in his comeback. He didn’t even last an inning Saturday evening at Daikin Park. His ERA is 15.75. Then some arsehole made death threats against McCullers and his family. I hope they arrest the arsehole.
Yordan and Altuve are dinged up. We won yesterday. Pitcher Ronel Blanco was outstanding in eight innings, striking out eleven, and giving up two hits. We are 20-19. The Royals are in for a three-game series.
