Texas State Rep. James Talarico will announce in the next day or so that he is running for the U.S. Senate. Here is what Charles Kuffner had to say about this:

I’ll be honest, I would have preferred Talarico run for Governor if he was going to go statewide. That’s partly because I’m fine with Allred 2.0 and partly because we need a bigger name in the Governor’s race. But there’s no question that Talarico will bring excitement and energy to the Senate race, and he’s already made a name for himself nationally. I’ll be very interested to see what the October finance reports look like. Welcome to the race, Rep. Talarico.

I don’t have much to add to Rep. Talarico getting into this race other than what I have said before. At this point I don’t know who will get my vote in this race.

The Texas Republican Party is suing the Texas Secretary of State to force to have only registered Republicans vote in MAGA primary elections. They said they would figure out a way to determine who is a registered Republican. I guess if they are successful in court, they can go look at who voted in the 2024 MAGA primary and automatically label them as registered Republicans. Then they can create a procedure to let voters who didn’t vote in the 2024 MAGA primary to swear allegiance to MAGA or something like that. Then in 2027, the MAGA controlled Texas state legislature can codify this into the election code.

Those of us who live in the H-Town media market have run across the ads for U.S. Sen. Cornyn that bash cheating, crooked Ken Paxton. I wonder if the ads are having the desired effect. MAGA Cong. Wesley Hunt has also been running ads in a few media markets in Texas touting his allegiance to Donald Trump. Some observers say that Hunt is testing the waters for a possible U.S. Senate race. Cornyn donors sent word to Hunt donors calling for Hunt to stop running the ads and they labeled the Hunt ad campaign a “vanity project.” You have to figure at some point Paxton will have ads going after Cornyn.

I am rooting for Paxton in this race for obvious reasons.

I am sure you saw Donald Trump retweet his image as Colonel Kilgore from “Apocalypse Now” in relation to his going to war in Chicago. Trump added to the retweet the phrase “I love the smell of deportations in the morning.” I will just say this. I wonder how folks would have reacted if on the morning of May 3, 2011, Barack Obama had retweeted his image as Colonel Kilgore with the phrase “I love the smell of a dead Osama bin Laden in the morning.” Just saying.

The featured photo is where we are at in the MLB standings this morning. We have 18 games left on the regular season schedule. Even though we have a 2 ½ game lead, we are hardly in the driver’s seat. The Mariners have 13 at home against the Cardinals, Angels, Rockies, and Dodgers. They play six on the road in KC and here at Daikin Park. We have 12 roadies in Toronto, The ATL, Sacramento, and Anaheim. Our six remaining games at Daikin Park are against the Rangers and Mariners. Anything can happen. We have today off.
