From the oops department. See this from Houston Public Media:
After more than a year of posting to social media and reaching out to news media, Ethan Hale stood alone — aside from a Houston Public Media journalist — at the Houston City College campus on Monday, seeking more than 63,000 signatures for an effort to recall Mayor John Whitmire from office.
“I don’t think he’s taking the city on a good path. I think we’re funding the wrong things. We’re not funding the right things,” said Hale, who took the semester off to focus on the recall effort. “I feel like he’s kind of anti-democratic. I think a lot of us in this effort would say that much, but I think it’s gonna be worth it.”
Over the course of the first hour of canvassing, Hale collected about ten signatures. The number might have been higher if more of his fellow students were willing to share their addresses, a required component for the petition.
He held clipboards with misspelled signature forms reading “petiton.” The Houston City Secretary did not immediately respond to a question about whether those forms would be valid despite the misspelling.
Here is the entire read: Uphill effort to recall Whitmire kicks off with single canvasser, misspelled signature forms – Houston Public Media.
One would think that a serious effort to unseat the H-Town Mayor would have a few sets of eyes carefully review the wording of the petition. I guess they are not serious. I don’t see how the City Secretary would certify a petition with a spelling error.

Everyone knows I am a KPRC Channel 2 News loyal viewer. Morning anchor Owen Conflenti has been off the air for a few weeks now. His absence caused a temporary shift of anchor chairs throughout the newscasts. For instance, evening news anchor Daniella Guzman has been sitting in the morning anchor chair for the last couple of weeks. Midday anchor Lisa Herandez has been doing evening anchor duty. You get the picture.
It looks like Owen will be back next week. See this from the Chron:
KPRC2 anchor Owen Conflenti plans to return to the news desk after surgery this month.
Conflenti announced in a video on his Facebook page yesterday that he has been temporarily off air after having surgery on a hernia.
“Everything has been going well, feeling a lot better,” Conflenti said in the video. “The plan is to be back on air with you Oct. 13.”
This is good to hear. That is Owen and co-anchor Sofia Ojeda in the featured photo.

I drove to Segundo Barrio yesterday to make a delivery. On my way back my dashboard gizmo alerted me to low pressure in my front right tire. Sigh. I will have to take my Explorer to the shop today. Hopefully a new tire will not be required.

I go out and fetch my hard copy Chron before the sun comes up every morning. Nowadays I look down on both sides of the street before I step outside. With coyote sightings up in my neighborhood, the last thing I want to do is run into one of those varmints. I have seen a coyote on my street a couple of times.

MLB players will return to action at Daikin Park on Friday, March 6, 2026. I am talking about the World Baseball Classic (WBC). At 12 noon that day, Mexico and Great Britain play. At 7 pm that evening it is Team USA versus Brazil. I have tickets to all 12 WBC games that will be played at Daikin Park next March.
