MAGA Shutdown
Evan Mintz, the Chron’s Editor for Opinion and Community Engagement, is all MAGA this morning. They have a cartoon at the bottom of the editorial page of the Chron hard copy of the New York City Mayor-Elect with the Democratic Party name with a hammer and sickle embedded in the image. I expect better from Evan. A lot of great patriotic Americans from across the country were cheering for Zohran Mamdani. He was the nominee of the Democratic Party. Evan must have put a dose of dumbarse in his cereal yesterday morning. POS cartoon for sure.

This story aired on KPRC Channel 2 News a couple of days ago. See this:
HOUSTON – The Houston Police Officers’ Union launched a viral social media campaign Tuesday night, less than an hour after Zohran Mamdani was projected to win the New York City mayoral election.
A flyer that gained traction online posted by the Houston Police Officers’ Union listed reasons NYPD officers might consider transferring to the Houston Police Department.
“NYPD, are you disgusted with the election of Zohran Mamdani? Join us!” the flyer reads.
The flyer highlighted the recent HPD pay raise, support from the mayor, council and community, and a fair district attorney.
“This is all about recruiting,” HPOU President Doug Griffith said. “We are 1,200 officers short. So I don’t care if it’s two or 200. If we can get some great NYPD guys down here, we’ll take them.”
HPOU obviously has some good political folks over at the union hall. They knew Mamdani was going to win and they were locked and loaded and ready to launch their campaign once the race was called.

It looks like we have a candidate for Texas CD 9 in the Democratic Party Primary. See this from the Trib:
WASHINGTON — Terry Virts, a former astronaut and International Space Station commander, on Thursday said that he was ending his campaign for U.S. Senate to run in Texas’ newly drawn 9th Congressional District.
The retired Air Force colonel launched his campaign for the Democratic U.S. Senate nomination in June. But his bid struggled to gain traction over the higher profile campaigns of state Rep. James Talarico and former U.S. Rep. Colin Allred.
In a press release, Virts said his shift to the House race “reflects a renewed focus on defending Texas’ voice in Congress and ensuring common-sense leadership in this pivotal district.”
Good to see this. Let’s see if other Democrats get into this race.

With all the chaos at our airports thanks to the MAGA federal government shutdown, I thought it was appropriate to offer today’s featured photo.

It is official. See this from the Chron:
The Houston Astros extended a one-year qualifying offer to Framber Valdez on Thursday as the left-hander enters free agency.
Valdez has until Nov. 18 to accept or reject the qualifying offer, which is worth $22.025 million for 2026, and is likely to reject it.
That’s it. Framber will not be in an Astros uniform on Opening Day. As an Astro he was 81-52 with a 3.36 ERA, two-time All Star, and a World Series ring.
