An Amanda Vote
I got my mail ballot yesterday for the 18th Congressional District Special Election runoff and I voted for Amanda Edwards as in the featured photo. I will be taking it to the post office this morning. I will be one of the first to cast a ballot. Early voting in person for the runoff special begins on Wednesday, January 21, 2026.

I wonder how many Harris County Democratic Party primary voters can be influenced by whom Harris County Judge Lina Hidalgo supports or opposes. Judge Hidalgo said this yesterday about former H-Town Mayor and candidate for County Judge Annise Parker yesterday:
In recent weeks, it’s become clear that so many of our community’s elected officials care more about politics than representing the values that the people of Harris County elected them on. I hadn’t originally planned to get involved in the race for the next County Judge, but I can’t sit back when Harris County’s future is at stake. Harris County simply can’t afford another power player who treats the role like a political chessboard. Another individual who runs on the Democratic ticket and governs as a Republican.
Today, I want to send a clear message to Democratic primary voters in Harris County: Annise Parker doesn’t represent our values. This is not politically convenient for me—to speak against a known political player in our County. But I have found too many Democratic voters don’t know this—
Annise Parker heartily endorsed and hosted fundraisers for Kim Ogg. Even after it was clear that there was no substance behind her attacks on county employees that cost taxpayers millions of dollars.
She invited the TEA takeover of HISD.
In fall 2022 she refused to support our ticket when a far-right, election denying extremist ran against me. The opponent at the time, on the record, she refused to acknowledge that Joe Biden won the election.
She will follow John Whitmire’s playbook, capitulating to Donald Trump and Greg Abbott. Annise Parker is Kim Ogg 2.0
Interesting. I wonder why Annise did not support the 2022 full slate of local Democrats. Alex Mealer turned out to be all out MAGA.
BTW: Former Harris County District Attorney Kim Ogg put out a statement in response to Judge Hidalgo. I don’t know why local Democrats would give a rat’s arse what Kim has to say on this.

This is the lead headline in today’s Chron hard copy:
Dems at crossroads after resolution
It is about the silly resolution against H-Town Mayor John Whitmire. I don’t think we are at crossroads or at a fork in the road. It is more like we are moving on down the road.
This kind of reminds of the weeks after the November 2024 election when folks were saying the Democrats were lost and in a fog.
