Surrender Dorothy

We all remember the Wicked Witch of the West spelling out “Surrender Dorothy” with her broom in the sky above Emerald City in “The Wizard of Oz.” I thought of that immediately after I saw the dangerous knucklehead Stephen Miller call for Minnesota state and local law enforcement to “stand down and surrender.” I trust folks in Minnesota won’t be fooled. I hope they don’t take the bait. Donald Trump and Miller would love an escalation to violence.

“Today” did a piece this morning on some states requiring teaching cursive writing in elementary schools. After the piece, some of the “Today” hosts were asked to write letters in cursive, including some in uppercase. The uppercase Q stumped some of the hosts. I must admit, I too forgot how to write the uppercase Q.

When I write a note these days, I combine cursive with printing.

We will know late this afternoon if former Astro Carlos Beltrán makes the Baseball Hall of Fame. Beltrán figured prominently in the team’s sign stealing scandal a few years ago. Here is what he said in an interview after he was named:

“We all did what we did. Looking back today, we were wrong. I wish I would’ve asked more questions about what we were doing. I wish the organization would’ve said to us, ‘Hey man, what you guys are doing, we need to stop this.’ Nobody really said anything.”

Pretty lame comments. Oh, well.
