Astros Spring Training

I took my mail ballot to the post office yesterday. Early voting in person starts in six days. The Chron has a hard copy story today mentioning U.S. Sen. John Cornyn hoping to get endorsed by Donald Trump. Getting late for Sen. Cornyn. Don’t feel sorry for this arsehole who morphed into a MAGA shill.

The Chron E-Board endorsed Cong. Christian Menefee over Cong. Al Green in CD 18. Here is from the endorsement:

In the past, we endorsed Green several times, citing his reliable Democratic representation that brought back millions to his district for important infrastructure projects. This time, he didn’t meet with us, offering this statement instead:

“I am not the Houston Chronicle’s Congressman, I’m the People’s Congressman. I see no reason to legitimize a sham, pre-determined endorsement process wherein the Houston Chronicle has already made its selection.”

Though we clarified for him — and should for readers, too — that yes, columnist Joy Sewing had already voiced her feelings that Green should step aside in this race, she is not part of the editorial board and doesn’t make the endorsement decision.

Here is the entire endorsement: Christian Menefee is a fighter. Democrats should pick him for CD18.

Oh, well.

I saw this in the Trib yesterday:

WASHINGTON — In his first-ever run for elected office, former Major League Baseball player Mark Teixeira is overpowering the field of a dozen Republicans competing to replace Rep. Chip Roy in Congress, pumping millions of his personal wealth into his campaign and locking up key endorsements, including a recent nod from President Donald Trump.

Roy, R-Austin, is running for Texas attorney general this year, leaving Texas’ 21st Congressional District up for grabs. The seat, which includes parts of San Antonio and several ruby red Hill Country counties, would have gone for Trump by nearly 22 points in 2024 under its new boundaries — meaning the Republican primary will likely decide the next representative.

Teixeira, a former Texas Rangers and New York Yankees first baseman, has raised more cash than any other candidate, loaning $2.5 million of his own money to his campaign and pulling in another $545,000 from donors. Aside from Trump, he is endorsed by Gov. Greg Abbott — whose push for private school vouchers Teixeira recently supported — and nine of the 25 Republicans from Texas’ congressional delegation.

I guess Teixeria has his reason for wanting to loan his own dough to be part of the minority in congress next January.

Maybe it is just me, but those Brett Jensen for Congress ads are a tad odd. Can the fella stand up on his own. Weird.

At FanFest last month, reliever Josh Hader said he was 100% ready to go. According to news reports yesterday, he’s not ready.

Spring Training gets underway today.
