“Keep hope alive!” “I am somebody!”

We lost a great American. Rev. Jesse Jackson was a powerful force in American politics. A historical figure. A respected worldwide leader. Champion of civil rights, voting rights, and human rights. Trailblazer. Two presidential campaigns. One of the greatest orators of our time. One of the most effective leaders within the Democratic Party over the last half century. He will be missed but never forgotten.

We lost another great American a couple of days ago. Robert Duvall played characters who will be with us for a long, long time. Tom Hagen, Colonel Kilgore, and Augustus McCrae, to name a few.

His early films included “To Kill a Mockingbird,” “M*A*S*H” and “True Grit,” where his Ned Pepper character responds to John Wayne’s Rooster Cogburn with “I call that bold talk for a one-eyed fat man!” near the end of the movie. This line has stayed with me since I first saw “True Grit” in 1969.

My favorite Robert Duvall films include “The Godfather,” “The Godfather Part II,” “Lonesome Dove,” “Tender Mercies,” “Apocalypse Now,” “Network,” and “Deep Impact.”

He had a bunch of good movie lines including telling Tessio, “can’t do it, Sally” and Colonel Kilgore’s “Charlie don’t surf,” and of course “I love the smell of napalm in the morning.”

When I texted my best friend the news about Robert Duvall leaving us, he texted back with “why do you hurt me, Michael.”

I just watched “Deep Impact” a week or so ago.

I will say it again. They should have paid Robert Duvall the money he wanted for “The Godfather Part III.”

Worship politics. I am talking about how MAGA operates. They worship one person. That one person can make or break you in a campaign for congress. Last night, Donald Trump endorsed Jessica Hart Steinmann in the MAGA CD 8 primary and then her opponent Brett Jensen put this tweet out:

I am a day one Trump guy and from the first conversation I ever had about running for office the only thing that has mattered to me is my desire to serve by supporting the President and his agenda. President Trump has now made his wishes clear; therefore, I am suspending my campaign.

Folded quickly. Jensen’s ads are still running this morning. What a punkarse.

Speaking of punkarses. Remember when we all saw the photos of punkarse MAGA State Rep. Briscoe Cain waiting to board a flight to Pennsylvania in November of 2020, so he could go try to steal the election for Trump. Well, also last night, Trump said thanks to Rep. Cain by endorsing his opponent Alex Mealer in the MAGA CD 9 primary. Too funny.

I wonder what Cain thinks about worship politics this morning. Too funny.

I watched the Team USA hockey women yesterday. Wow! They dominated Sweden in the semifinals at the Winter Olympics. Wow! They go for the gold on Thursday.
