State Holiday

Tomorrow is a Texas state holiday. Yep. April 21 is San Jacinto Day.  At Texas state agencies, skeleton crews are required. On April 21, 1836, Sam Houston and the Texas army defeated the Mexican forces at the Battle of San Jacinto to secure our independence from Mexico. The San Jacinto Battleground and Monument are located here in Harris County, bordered by Baytown, Channelview, and of course Deer Park.

I bet most people in Harris County have never stepped foot on the battleground. I also bet most people in Harris County have never heard of San Jacinto Day. The state of Texas does a lousy job teaching kids Texas history. Why do you have a state holiday if most people don’t know what the holiday is?

Yordan Alvarez has the hottest bat in baseball this season. Christian Walker is also up there in RBIs. Too bad our pitching has fallen apart.
