Cinco de Mayo
From the Chron:
Today in 1862: Mexican troops repelled French attacks on the city of Puebla de los Angeles in the Battle of Puebla, also known as the Battle of Cinco de Mayo.
You should know that by now.
KPRC Channel 2 News morning co-anchor Sofia Ojeda is the featured photo and today she is celebrating a Cinco de Mayo birthday.

The Chron E-Board today gives H-Town Mayor John Whitmire some credit on the garbage fee thing. See how the take ends:
There are still plenty of other options that Whitmire should explore for raising revenue, including nudging the property tax rate higher and closer to the other major cities in Texas. But Whitmire deserves credit for taking a much-needed first step towards solvency by admitting that Houston is facing a fiscal crisis that can’t be solved without new revenue sources.
Here is the entire E-Board read: Trash fee is Whitmire’s best idea yet for fixing Houston’s finances.
Go read it, please.

From the Trib:
Attorney General Ken Paxton leads Sen. John Cornyn by three percentage points in a new poll of Texas’ U.S. Senate Republican runoff, suggesting the May 26 contest will be narrowly decided absent a shakeup in the final weeks.
The statewide survey, conducted by the University of Houston’s Hobby School of Public Affairs, found Paxton garnering 48% of the vote to Cornyn’s 45% among likely GOP runoff voters. Fielded from April 28 to Friday, the poll surveyed 1,200 voters and yielded a margin of error of +/-2.83 percentage points.
I am rooting for the crooked arse cheater Paxton.

My nephew David and I went to the Astros and Dodgers game last night at Daikin Park. There were a ton of Dodgers fans there. David said it would have been a sparse crowd if the Dodgers fans had not shown up.
The Astros had one of those bullpen games where only relievers took to the mound. It was ugly. Kyle Tucker wearing the Dodger blue was booed in his first at-bat then he hit a bloop single to drive in a run. In a later at-bat, Tucker slammed a dinger. On this Tuesday Cinco de Mayo evening at the ballpark, we will stick to Dollar Dogs. Oh, yeah, Shohei Ohtani will be the starting pitcher for the Dodgers.
