The Age Thing Again

Folks know that Commentary forks over $121 every four weeks to the Chron to support local journalism. I don’t think the headline today in the Chron hard copy is headline worthy news. Paxton: Cornyn weak on MAGA. See the featured photo. This is old news one week before election day. Well, at least it reminds folks that there is an election going on.

I said this last week:

A PAC supporting Cong. Christian Menefee, Protect Progress, came out with an ad this morning and it starts off with an 80-year-old fella referencing Cong. Al Green’s age and passing the torch. I will say it again, snatching the torch.

In another Protect Progress ad that came out this morning supporting Cong. Menefee, Cong. Jasmine Crockett in the featured photo, is a bit more subtle, and calls for “a new generation of leadership.”

I am sure the 78-year-old Cong. Green is a tad perturbed by the ads and the age thing. Oh, well.

The new Menefee ad that dropped yesterday, from the Menefee campaign, is lively and physical. It plays to the age thing again. The ad features a constantly moving Menefee with his wife doing the narrating. Menefee is seen moving in the bathroom, at the kitchen table, with a female walking group, in a grocery store, and in bed. It is not hard to figure out that Menefee wants CD 18 voter to see the contrast of a physical Menefee with a cane-in-hand Cong. Al Green. It very well may work.

I talked to the mail ballot folks over at Harrisvotes.com yesterday. It is too late for them to send me another mail ballot. I am going to wait until this Friday or election day next Tuesday to cast a provisional ballot. If I get my mail ballot before then, I will fill it out and personally take it to Harrisvotes.com on election day. I won’t risk letting the post office handle it.

I saw this on KPRC Channel 2 News:

HOUSTON – A former Texas congressional candidate has been arrested with charges related to an alleged domestic violence situation.

Brett Jensen, who ran for Texas’ 8th Congressional District, was arrested Sunday night and charged with assault-family violence involving impeding breathing, according to Harris County court records.

According to law enforcement sources, deputies with the Harris County Precinct 4 Constable’s Office were called to Houston Methodist Hospital in The Woodlands.

At the hospital, Jensen’s wife allegedly told investigators that he had slapped and strangled her. She said it was not the first time this had happened, according to court records.

A law enforcement source said Jensen told hospital staff that his wife was injured after she became intoxicated at a party and fell.

“He’s 100 percent not guilty. He’s 100 percent innocent of these allegations, and I will be appearing in court with him to defend him against these charges,” Brent Mayr, Jensen’s defense attorney, told KPRC 2’s Bryce Newberry.

What a tool. I always thought his ads were weird because it looked like he could barely stand. In his ads, he tried to come across as a tough guy. Well, well, well.

From the Puttin’ on the Ritz department, I saw this in the Daily Beast:

FX has officially ordered a series of Very Young Frankenstein, a comedy based on the 1974 Mel Brooks cult classic Young Frankenstein. News of the project reaching pilot stage was announced last June. There is still little information about the series, beyond the cast boasting Zach Galifianakis, Dolly Wells, Spencer House, Nikki Crawford, Kumail Nanjiani and Cary Elwes. The FX and Hulu series comes from Stefani Robinson, Taika Waititi and Garrett Basch, the creative team behind comedy horror What We Do In the Shadows. Brooks, who turns 100 next month, is an executive producer. “Very Young Frankenstein blends inspiration from the fan-favorite movie with the inventive, irreverent spirit that has defined FX comedies over the years, making this a completely original take on the classic story,” Nick Grad, President of FX Entertainment, told Deadline. He added, “In the hands of FX veterans Stefani, Taika and Garrett, alongside the iconic Mel Brooks, we know that fans will have as much fun watching this series as we’re having making it.” Young Frankenstein, a parody of the horror genre, starred the late Gene Wilder in the title role. It ranked at No. 13 on the American Film Institute’s list of the 100 Funniest American Movies of All Time. In the film, Wilder plays Frederick Frankestein, who returns to Transylvania and experiments with re-animating the dead. No release date for Very Young Frankenstein has been announced. The documentary Mel Brooks: 99 Year Old Man! was released earlier this year.

I am curious as to the direction this goes.

If the rain comes
They run and hide their heads

Or,

I’m singin’ in the rain
Just singin’ in the rain
What a glorious feelin’
I’m happy again

Or,

Raindrops are falling on my head

You should have plenty of tunes about rain to sing while it rains over the next week or so.

The Astros lost last night at Target Field and are now 19-30. We are now the second team in MLB this season to hit the 30-loss mark. Move over Angels. We will play game number 50 this evening.
