The Age Thing
A PAC supporting Cong. Christian Menefee, Protect Progress, came out with an ad this morning and it starts off with an 80-year-old fella referencing Cong. Al Green’s age and passing the torch. I will say it again, snatching the torch.
In another Protect Progress ad that came out this morning supporting Cong. Menefee, Cong. Jasmine Crockett in the featured photo, is a bit more subtle, and calls for “a new generation of leadership.”
I am sure the 78-year-old Cong. Green is a tad perturbed by the ads and the age thing. Oh, well.

I saw this in The Hill yesterday:
Sen. Ted Cruz (R-Texas) on Monday called progressive firebrand Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (D-N.Y.) a “parasite sucking on the taxpayer” after she claimed that Americans “can’t earn” to become billionaires.
“I recognize for her –– given that she was a bartender –– that is probably true, and there is no disrespect to bartenders,” Cruz told Fox News’s Sean Hannity. “Bartenders are an honorable profession. But she went from that to being a government employee and a parasite sucking on the taxpayer.”
Here is the entire read: Cruz calls Ocasio-Cortez ‘parasite sucking on the taxpayer’ over billionaire remarks.
On the parasitic experience thing, Cancun Cruz has been on a state and federal government payroll for 21 years and counting.

I just saw this in the Chron:
Former Houston Mayor Annise Parker holds an 18-point lead over Letitia Plummer, a former Houston City Council member, in the Democratic runoff for Harris County judge, according to a poll published Thursday by the University of Houston Hobby School of Public Affairs.
Pollsters asked 1,200 likely voters who they supported in the May 26 runoffs for county judge and district clerk.
The poll found Parker ahead 54% to 36%, with 10% undecided. Parker led among white and Latino voters, while Plummer polled higher among Black voters.
And this:
For district clerk, the poll found former county misdemeanor court judge Darryl Jordan held a 3-point lead over 23-year-old UH graduate student Alex Maldonado, who, if elected, would be the youngest person to hold the position in recent history.
More than half of respondents said they were unsure about who planned to support for district clerk.
It is a 23% to 20% spread.

On a related note, I got a mailer from Annise yesterday. I have said before that I read political campaign mail that lands in my mailbox. Here is a line from Annise’s mailer that caught my attention:
“My plan includes starting a Hire Harris County First program, investing in infrastructure to prevent flooding, and working to limit cooperation with ICE to the legal bare minimum.”
I would have stayed away from the ICE mention. We just saw at H-Town City Hall how volatile and emotional the issue can get, Plus, some folks don’t even want the legal bare minimum. Just saying.
