A Mess

The Texas Democratic Party State Convention gets underway today in Corpus Christi. I won’t be able to attend. U.S. Sen. Bernie Sanders will be the featured speaker today. MAGA tried to make a big deal about Sen, Sanders speaking, but nobody paid attention to MAGA. That is what happens when you have a cheating, crooked Ken Paxton at the top of your ticket.

This is a mess. See this from the Chron:

Fort Bend interim County Judge Daniel Wong said Thursday he will remain in office despite the county attorney’s conclusion that he no longer has the legal authority to serve.

Wong rejected calls to step aside and insisted he would remain in the seat while any legal disputes play out in court.

I guess this will be settled on election day in November.

I mentioned a couple of weeks or so ago that KPRC TV Channel 2 News has reporter Nicole Nielsen dedicated to covering Houston Heights, my neighborhood. Yesterday she provided an update on infrastructure projects. I found it very informative and useful. Like they say, news you can use.

From Yahoo Sports:

Back in 2005, a Chicago White Sox fan by the name of Robert Francis Prevost attended Game 1 of the World Series. As White Sox closer Bobby Jenks was on the mound to close out the contest, the broadcast took a shot of the crowd, which featured Prevost cheering on his favorite team.

What the world didn’t know at the time was that Prevost would be elected pope 20 years later.

That’s right: Prevost now goes by the name Pope Leo XIV, and he has been very open about his sports fandom since taking his new job.

Well, Pope Leo’s fandom got taken to another level recently, as former White Sox catcher A.J. Pierzynski gave the pope the baseball from the final out of Game 1 of the 2005 World Series … the same one the pope attended in person.

Jenks successfully closed out Game 1 of the World Series, striking out Adam Everett to give the White Sox a 5-3 win. Pierzynski, the team’s starting catcher in 2005, caught the final out, which was likely why he still had the ball in his possession before giving it to Pope Leo.

I wonder what former Astros shortstop Adam Everett thinks about this.

The Astros won last night, and we are now a game and a half back. Wow.

Again, the featured photo is cheering the Astros on.
