AT&T Scam Attempt

The electoral process segment of our democracy is rotting because of Donald Trump. Trump’s lies have about a third of the electorate believing the 2020 election was rigged and Joe Biden didn’t win. Tonight Trump will go on TV to lie again about the 2020 election. Shame on those news outlets that will let Trump get away with telling the big lie again.

I wholeheartedly agree and endorse this tweet by voting rights attorney Marc Elias:

Everyone in the legacy media knows Trump’s history and knows that he will spread dangerous lies on Thursday night. They know that they have a choice about whether to cover the speech. Most importantly, they know the danger and the stakes.

Let’s see which news outlets take the cowardly and dangerous road this evening.

If you are an AT&T wireless customer, you probably heard about this that came out last year:

AT&T has suffered two significant data breaches over the last few years and as a result, millions of customers can now file a claim for a payout of up to $7,500.

It comes after AT&T agreed to a $177 million settlement earlier this year. The first of the two breaches in question came to light in March 2024, when the details of 7.6 million AT&T customers and 65 million former account holders were found on the “dark web” — the underground version of the internet where cybercriminals operate. The actual breach took place five years earlier in 2019.

The second, which AT&T admitted to in July 2024, saw nearly customers’ data exposed via third party platform Snowflake in a 2022 incident.

A federal judge in Texas has now given approval for two settlement funds, for $149 million and $28 million.

AT&T denies the allegations and said it had agreed to the settlement to avoid costly litigation.

I mentioned last year that my I.D. was stolen and fake accounts had been created. My credit score took a temporary hit, but I was able to recover thanks to the entities involved. I was also an AT&T customer and shortly after I was asked to sign up to the AT&T settlement claim group.

I thought AT&T had fixed things and we were protected. Nope. Earlier this week, I nearly became a victim of an AT&T scam attempt. I was called and the caller knew the exact amount and date of my last past payment to my AT&T wireless account. I was being offered a discount with the condition of an upfront payment. When I started asking some questions, the caller lost his cool and f-bombed me. I hung up.

I called AT&T and found out that my account was not being offered a discount. I could not talk to a real person and ended up getting the info through a text discussion. I sure would like to talk to an AT&T agent in real time to report the scam attempt and let them know that my personal info is still out there. I don’t feel comfortable talking to a person on the other side of the world, talking to a robot, or texting on this very important and personal matter. Sigh.

I am not an expert on soccer tactics and strategy in the World Cup. Once England took a 1-0 lead over Argentina yesterday, they just kind of sat back and tried to protect the goal and let Argentina keep punching. It was kind of a rope-a-dope strategy that ended up not working.

That is Alex Bregman, Jose Altuve, and Lance McCullers, Jr. in the featured photo. That is a bobblehead of them holding the 2017 and 2022 World Series trophies given to season ticket holders in 2023.  Lance is no longer with the Astros. He was traded yesterday to the Brewers. Lance was a major and key contributor to our success since 2015. He helped us win World Series rings in 2017 and 2022. He always gave his best plus. I am glad he was an Astro. He will be missed for sure. Thank you, Lance.
