Dark Red, My Arse
Here is what U.S. Sen. John Cornyn said about cheating, crooked Ken Paxton a few days ago:
“Paxton’s a poor campaigner. He’s lazy and doesn’t raise money. And he basically is not offering a very compelling case for his election. He’s making this harder than it needs to be. But so be it — we are where we are.”
I love it. It is well deserved.

This is from the Chronicle back in mid-December of last year:
Gov. Greg Abbott is prepared to pour $25 million into his effort to turn Harris County — a Democratic stronghold he lost by 10 percentage points in 2022 — “dark red” as he seeks a record fourth term in office, according to details of the plan shared with Hearst Newspapers.
As part of that, the Texas Republican is planning to target House Democrats there with messaging on crime, bail restrictions and property taxes, key planks of his reelection pitch. The governor recruited Republican candidates to run in every state House seat in the county, including some where the GOP has not had a candidate on the ballot in years. And he’s hired a consultant based in Houston, Jessica Colón, to help coordinate their efforts.
“Governor Abbott is going on the offensive in Harris County, a key battleground for the state,” said Eduardo Leal, press secretary for the governor’s campaign. “Governor Abbott’s mission is clear: to keep Texas affordable, safe and prosperous.”
The election is 12 weeks from tomorrow. I am not seeing or feeling a $25 million barrage from Abbott here is Harris County. I don’t believe in stealth campaigns either. Anything can happen, but I don’t think anything is going to happen.
Some folks are thinking dark blue. I could go for that.
Donald Trump, the fella who heads up MAGA, was in H-Town last Thursday and Friday. It seems like if you are going to turn Harris County “dark red,” you have a huge arse rally with Trump 9 weeks before the election. You know, a momentum building thing. Instead, nada. They had a MAGA fundraising event at the Post Oak Hotel Thursday evening, and nobody has seen images from the event. You can’t turn dark red if you are hiding. Dark red, my arse.

Gov. Greg Abbott has made affordability a central theme of his campaign, rolling out a smorgasbord of policy proposals he says will bring down the cost of living in Texas.
“We’re going to make Texas one of the most affordable states in the United States of America,” the Republican governor vowed at a recent campaign stop.
It is something of a new approach for the governor, who has been the state’s top executive for more than a decade and has never before focused a campaign around cost of living.
And this:
Abbott’s Democratic opponent, Austin state Rep. Gina Hinojosa, has said she would declare cost-of-living an emergency on her first day in office and push for lawmakers to send $1,500 checks to every household in the state.
“Greg Abbott has had 12 years to make Texas more affordable, but under his leadership, Texans are paying more and getting less,” Hinojosa said. “Now that it’s an election year, he’s scrambling to address an affordability crisis that happened on his watch.”

Sorry, pal. MAGA policies that Abbott has embraced like Trump’s Iran war, Trump’s tariffs, the exploding federal debt, tax cuts for billionaires, for starters, have put a hurt on our wallets. There is nothing Abbott can do about this.
