Fake DEI

Patrick Svitek tweeted this about the campaign reports that were filed yesterday:

New campaign finance reports in #TXGOV (Sept. 25-OCT. 24):

– Greg Abbott (inc.) (R): $26M raised, $35.4M spent, $8.6M cash on hand

– Gina Hinojosa (D): $17.5M raised, $19.1M spent, $990K cash on hand

Rep. Hinojosa has been competitive in my book. No wonder the Abbott campaign is scared sh_tless.

On a related note, see this from the Chron:

Democrat Gina Hinojosa has created a buzz in the Rio Grande Valley that Jaunita Reyna has never seen before.

With polls showing Hinojosa and Gov. Greg Abbott in a tight race heading into Nov. 3, people are starting to believe a kid from the Valley just might make it to the governor’s mansion – something that has never happened in Texas history.

“She’s from here,” Reyna said outside of a polling site in the small town of Progresso, just two miles from the Texas border. “She’s from our town. From our home. It does matter to people here.”

While Hinojosa’s built her political career as a school board member and state legislator from Austin, she was born in McAllen, raised in the Valley and went to high school in Brownsville. Between her and Tejano music star Bobby Pulido, who is running for Congress, voters in the Valley see a chance to elect people who are authentically from the area and know where their needs are, Reyna said.

The early voting numbers appear to back up what Reyna, a veteran Democratic activist, is talking about. Nearly 150,000 people in Hidalgo and Cameron counties voted during the first week of early voting, a 63% jump from four years ago in a region that has been notorious for low voter turnout in years past.

Here is the entire read: Hinojosa leans on Rio Grande Valley roots in battle with Abbott.

Just hoping and hoping she can take down the fella in the featured photo.

MAGA has been on a mission to obliterate DEI. We have seen it in government and in our public universities. MAGA Fort Bend County Judge Daniel Wong has decided that a little DEI might benefit his election, so he has decided to create fake DEI. See this from the Chron:

Fort Bend County Judge Daniel Wong is facing heat for posting a campaign video generated by artificial intelligence that depicts Black people voicing support for his campaign because he paid for their basic needs.

Wong, a Republican who was appointed to the role this year and is seeking a full term Nov. 3, posted a video on Facebook Friday morning that shows six Black, AI-generated “supporters” thanking Wong for his help in finding them jobs, getting them food and paying their light bills. The video has since been deleted from Wong’s social media pages.

“(He helped me) at my worst time,” says one AI-generated character, who wears a misspelled “Daniel Wong” hat and stands in front of an illegible roadside marquee covered in gibberish letters.

Fort Bend County Pct. 4 Commissioner Dexter McCoy, Wong’s Democratic opponent, said the video was “reprehensible and disgusting” for reducing the perception of Black voters to people simply looking for a “handout.”

This MAGA dude obviously doesn’t have any African American supporters who are willing to record a campaign message on his behalf, so he must invent some. What a sad joke from this pathetic candidate.

Vote, vote, vote! Early, early, early!
