Unified Team

In the press release issued last Thursday by TEA announcing the HISD Board of Managers and Superintendent, Texas Education Commissioner Mike Morath said the following:

 “We were looking for people from a wide array of backgrounds, experiences, and perspectives who believe all children can learn and achieve at high levels when properly supported and who can work together. I believe the governing team I am naming today will work as a unified team, dedicated to improving student outcomes and supporting educators.” 

Work as a unified team.

The nine new managers — who include parents, attorneys, business leaders, educators and at least one person, Janette Garza Lindner, who previously lost an election for the board — will all represent the district at-large, meaning they are not tied to one geographic area of Houston. 

I am OK for now at not being tied to a certain geographic area. Maybe that will all get them focused on the schools with the most need.

At this point their marching orders say, “work as a unified team.” I really don’t have a problem with that.  I want them to work together and get our school district back into our hands.

Less sniping for sure.  No secret meetings. No talking over each other.  No bullying.  No partisan games.

My goodness, sounds refreshing.

Some good news. Check Todd announced yesterday that he would be giving up his moderator gig over at Meet the Press. Weekend Today co-host Kristin Welker will replace Todd.

Todd said this yesterday:

“I leave feeling concerned about this moment in history but reassured by the standards we’ve set here.  We didn’t tolerate propagandists, and this network and program never will.”

Sure. Only election denier after election denier. Good riddance.

Todd ran that once prestigious show into the ditch.

I will probably start watching again once Welker takes over.

My good friend, Nef Partida’s kid Nico, plays for the Pearland High Oilers baseball team. The Oilers will be playing in the 6A state finals this weekend in Round Rock.

My good friends, Mary and Dudley Carpenter’s kid Hayden, plays for the Magnolia West Mustangs baseball team. The Mustangs will be playing in the 5A state finals this weekend in Round Rock.

Last season, after 59 games, we were 36-23, in first place, with an 8-game lead in the AL West.

This season, after 59 games, we are 35-24, in second place, 3 ½ games behind in the AL West.

We are in Canada for the next four days.
