Dusty and Dinner

This was in the Chron a few days ago:

Over 60 Houston-area Democratic precinct chairs have signed on to a proposed resolution formally “admonishing” party member Harris County District Attorney Kim Ogg, citing actions Ogg has taken that they say “run counter to the interests, values, and agenda of the Democratic Party and the people of Harris County.”

I would like to see a copy of the resolution and the names of the Democratic precinct chairs who have signed the resolution. Show me the names, please!

With early voting now underway, the eyes of Texas are on County Clerk Teneshia Hudspeth, a Democrat facing her first test running Harris County’s highly scrutinized elections. If all goes according to plan, most voters will have no idea that the office has been in constant tumult for the past six years as six different leaders have cycled through the top job.

Hudspeth will manage Harris County’s vast elections system – over 700 Election Day voting locations and thousands of workers – after inheriting the office just a few weeks ago. Part of the job is shoring up confidence in the operations, which Hudspeth said she’s tackling both inside the office and with the public.

I have confidence in the Harris County Clerk and her elections staff. They know what they are up against.

The Astros are now looking for a new manager to replace Dusty Baker. Commentary doesn’t have a favorite. 

Speaking of Dusty, I watched his press conference yesterday. In his remarks, he mentioned Baytown, my hometown. Baytown was mentioned in his remarks related to a fishing location between Baytown and Galveston he visited. Cool.

The featured photo is from last night. State Sen. Carol Alvarado, former H-Town City Council member James Rodriguez, Dusty Baker, and James’s wife Melissa Martinez.

A group of us were celebrating Sen. Alvarado’s birthday at a local eatery and Dusty popped in. He was having dinner at the same restaurant. Dusty got some cheers from our dinner party and folks lined up to take a photo with him. He was very gracious and patient.

Commentary didn’t take a picture with Dusty. He did comment on my Beatles shirt I was wearing. I showed him a photo of my Dusty bobblehead and he told me he had not seen it before.

It was cool for Dusty to drop by and visit us.
