The Caucus Meeting

The Chiefs are not a good football team and Travis Kelce looks like he should retire. He’s been worthless the last seven or eight weeks. The double worthless Pfizer shots may have caught up with him. Either that or Taylor Swift is the Chiefs Yoko Ono. Maybe both.
Dummy. If you are a Beatles fan, you know that Yoko Ono didn’t cause the breakup of the Beatles. Big dummy for sure.

The Houston LGBTQ+ Political Caucus doesn’t allow photos or videos to be taken during the meeting unless you are an accredited member of the media or something like that. At the endorsement meeting on Saturday some Israel – Hamas war pro-ceasefire protesters interrupted the proceedings with shouts and chants. A few of us took out our iphone gizmos and started taking photos or video recordings. I guess we violated the rules. It might have gotten ugly, and you never know if you will need evidence. The protesters left after a couple of minutes or so.

The hourslong meeting later erupted into chaos during the process of endorsing Lizzie Fletcher in District 7. Protestors for Gaza started chanting during the event and criticizing the nomination of Fletcher.
The group of protestors, who preferred not to be named, said they would have preferred the caucus not nominate candidates as a way to oppose the war that has killed more than 25,000 people in Gaza since Oct. 7. Caucus staff forced the group out of the building.

I was sitting a few feet from the protestors. I would not have characterized it as chaos. More like disruptive.
Highlights from the meeting. In the U.S. Senate race, State Sen. Roland Gutierrez won the endorsement. The screening committee said Cong. Colin Allred was dismissive, kind of acted like he didn’t want to go through the process. They didn’t say it, but in listening to the screening committee, I kind of got the impression Cong. Allred acted like a jerk.
Cong. Sheila Jackson Lee was endorsed by a 148-73 vote. Oh, well.
Molly Cook was endorsed in the State Senate District 15 race. Wasn’t even close. This is of course for the Democratic Party primary. I wonder if the endorsement carries over for the May 4, 2024, Special Election?
My friend, Judge Kyle Carter didn’t get the screening committee recommendation for the 125th District Court position, but he had a lot of support there, the recommendation was voted down and Kyle got the nod.

The Chron E-Board started to put out their primary election endorsements yesterday. They endorsed Sheriff Ed Gonzalez for reelection in the Democratic Party Primary and Glenn Cowen for Sheriff in the GOP Party Primary. Got it?

I got my mail ballot on Friday. Attending the Caucus meeting helped me put a face on some of the judicial candidates. The Caucus rating handout is a useful tool. I also researched some of the candidates. The mail ballot is three pages long. It took me a couple of hours to complete my ballot. I will take it to the post office later today. The Chiefs put it on the Ravens yesterday. There were some bonehead penalties committed by the Ravens. They also turned the ball over a few times. Travis Kelce made some great snags. The Chiefs deserve to be in the Super Bowl.
The Lions made bad play calling toward the end of the game. That is why they are not going to the Super Bowl.
Yep. My green bin is still sitting out there – waiting.
