I got two mail pieces yesterday from the State Rep. Jarvis Johnson for State Senate District 15 campaign. The day after the election.

Lt. Gov. Dan Patrick and crook Texas GOP AG Ken Paxton just can’t accept losing. They are a couple of political toadies. They don’t like the way GOP Texas House Speaker Dade Phelan kicked their arses Tuesday night. According to Longhorn Derek, over 1,000 folks with a Democratic Party voting history voted early in the Phelan runoff race in Southeast Texas. None of the 1,000 or so voted in the March 5 Democratic Party Primary.  Of course, we don’t have any way of knowing who they voted for, but we can make a pretty safe guess.

Patrick and Paxton don’t like that Phelan got voters with a Democratic Party voting history to vote for him.

It is legal. Targeting voters with a Democratic Party voting history is a strategy Phelan was well within his rights to pursue. The 1,000 or so also had the right to get involved and participate in who they want to represent them in the Texas legislature.

Patrick and Paxton just can’t handle losing. Patrick and Paxton can’t handle folks exercising their civic duty.

We know these guys only want folks who vote their way to vote. Patrick and Paxton want to disenfranchise the rest of us.

Hey toadies, get over it. You got your arses whipped fair and square.

HISD is moving forward on a $4 to $5 billion dollar bond program. That is a lot of money. I put out a take on a proposed HISD bond election back on April 1.

HISD is announcing the dates for community meetings on the state of HISD facilities. In addition, we are naming the Community Advisory Committee that will drive engagement with the community.

The Committee will share information about the specific facility needs at the neighborhood and campus levels and gather feedback about the District’s proposed priorities. The District has not had a bond since 2012 and, as a result, there is over $10 billion in overdue facilities upgrades. The District has said it will explore a bond of $4-5 billion to allow the District to prioritize the most urgent needs – Safe and Healthy Schools, FutureReady Learning Environments, and Modernized Schools – without raising taxes.

The Committee will be co-chaired by three seasoned Houston Leaders:

Judith Cruz is a former trustee and board president of Houston ISD. With over two and a half decades of experience as a teacher, nonprofit leader, advocate and parent in HISD, she’s deeply rooted in efforts to foster student success, especially for those whose talent and potential is often overlooked.

Garnet Coleman served 30 years in the Texas House of Representatives. Until March 1st of 2022, he served on the house appropriations committee, the public health committee, and as the chair of the County Affairs Committee. He was an author of the state Children’s Heath Insurance Program and served as one 32 state legislators appointed by President Obama to help write and pass the Affordable Care Act. He is the chief strategy officer of CCPPI, a nonprofit he founded.

Scott McClelland is the retired president of HEB. In 2017 McClelland co-founded an education-based non-profit called Good Reason Houston focused on improving education for all students across Harris County from cradle to career.

There is a general feeling out there that HISD Superintendent Mike Miles doesn’t listen to anyone in H-Town. Why would folks want to hand him a $4 to $5 billion bond program if he isn’t going to listen to anyone. That is too much authority to hand to one fella, just saying.
