Now Doggett

In 2017, shortly after my Mom left us, a couple of my Dad’s grandkids recommended that I take my Dad to the doctor for a check-up of sorts. His behavior was at times erratic. I took him to see a geriatric specialist and they administered a verbal test. The questions were on the lines of how many children do you have, what’s the name of your spouse, how old are you, who is the U.S. president, what day and date is it, what year is it, – you get the picture. Apparently, it is a standardized verbal exam for older folks with possible memory and cognitive issues. There were times during the questioning that my Dad looked over at me for help with the answers, but the healthcare staff said he had to answer on his own. Sadly, my Dad was unable to answer a vast majority of the questions. The diagnosis was short term memory issues and early signs of dementia.

When we got into the car the first thing my Dad did was ask me why I had not bailed him out with the answers to the questions. My Dad was 93 years-old at the time.

President Joe Biden is 81. It has been reported that President Biden will be interviewed by ABC’s George Stephanopoulos this Friday.  Stephanopoulos needs to figure out how to work in a question or two or three that will test the President’s cognitive ability.

The featured photo is the hard copy front page of today’s Chron. It is unprecedented for sure. Cong. Lloyd Doggett is a highly respected member of congress. When was the last time we ever saw a headline like today’s.

I was watching the President’s press secretary conduct her briefing yesterday and she admitted that the President was “slower” these days. It was not a good look.

This is from an ABC news story:

At a campaign fundraiser in McLean, Virginia, on Tuesday evening, President Joe Biden — for the first time — attributed his poor debate performance last week to the amount of foreign travel he did in June, according to notes from a small group of reporters permitted in the event.

“I decided to travel around the world a couple of times,” Biden said, referring to recent trips abroad, including his visit to France for the 80th anniversary of D-Day.

“I didn’t listen to my staff,” he continued, adding he “came back and nearly fell asleep on stage.”

And from NBC News:

Former House Speaker Nancy Pelosi, D-Calif., said Tuesday that it’s valid for people to ask whether President Joe Biden’s poor performance at the debate Thursday night was just “an episode” or part of a “condition.”

This isn’t normal. I don’t know about you, but I want my Democratic nominee for President to have a lot more energy, pep, and vigor. With all this dominating the news, President Biden doesn’t have much of a choice. Commentary is afraid the President, The First Lady, and their family will just be too plain selfish to do the right thing.

Look. Commentary isn’t freaking out or going rogue. We just had a U.S. Supreme Court decide Donald Trump is above the law. We need to have our best on the ballot in November. We still have time, folks.

I will say it again. What we are going through at this moment in time is unprecedented for Democrats. Stay tuned.

Tomorrow is the Fourth of July, a holiday with no trash pick-up. Here is from the City of H-Town Solid Waste Management Department on tomorrow – Thursday:

There will be no curbside collections and all SWMD facilities will be closed.

For Friday, July 5:

Thursday’s garbage, yard waste, bulk waste, tree waste, and curbside recycling will be collected.

Great. During the previous administration, if your curbside recycling date was on a city holiday, it would have been kicked down the road for two weeks. Nice job, H-Town Mayor John Whitmire!

We lost last night but we are still down three games.
