Antonio Scalywag

Embarrassing. Puzzling. See this from the Chron:

Fort Bend County Judge KP George on Thursday was indicted on a misdemeanor charge of misrepresentation of identity with the intent to influence an election, court records show. George was arrested Thursday night and booked into the Fort Bend County jail.

Documents from the Fort Bend County District Attorney’s Office allege that George posed as Facebook user “Antonio Scalywag” to “injure” Republican challenger Trever Nehls in George’s 2022 re-election bid.

George’s representatives could not immediately be reached for comment. George’s bail was set at $1,000.

Precinct 1 Commissioner Vincent Morales called for George to step down in a Thursday afternoon social media post. In the post, Morales raised questions about how the indictment impacts George’s authority as county judge, as well as how it relates to George’s use of county law enforcement officers for security detail.

“I remain extremely concerned about the business of our county government through this disturbing turn of events,” Morales said.

A search warrant issued Sept. 19 alleges that George coordinated with Patel to use cellphones to create fake social media accounts to send themselves racist messages to influence elections, court documents show.

I don’t know what to make of this. I have been doing politics and campaigns longer than anyone in these parts. Being a Latino, for decades I have been out in the forefront taking on the racists, bigots and ignorant folks. We never pulled an Antonio Scalywag stunt like the one alleged in Fort Bend County. So sad. I hope it ends up being an honest mistake and not some act of political stupidity. Very bush league. Stay tuned.

I didn’t get my mail ballot yesterday. Maybe today is the day.

This is the final weekend of the MLB regular season. The Mariners were eliminated from the playoffs yesterday.  We will be in Cleveland for three. Yordan didn’t make the trip. He stayed home to mend after getting dinged up earlier this week. I hope we end on a winning note heading into next Tuesday’s Wild Card Series. Likely we will host either the Royals or Tigers. It doesn’t matter to me who we face. The featured photo continues to celebrate our AL West Division win.
