Bad Deals

Commentary has said this a couple or so times the past few weeks or so:

If all these tariffs are confusing you, don’t feel bad, they are also confusing to the folks who are imposing them.

Several of the tariffs are on goods that Donald Trump negotiated with Canada and Mexico in 2020, just saying.

It reminds me of Trump cancelling the 2015 Iran nuclear deal and now talking to Iran about a new nuclear deal.

Bad deals are running rampant these days in DC. There is no such thing as the art of the deal.

On a related note, let’s hope Harvard University will lead and set an example for standing up for the rule of law and our constitutional rights. Too many institutions and individuals are just rolling over. Let’s hope Harvard doesn’t fold.

Big time college football and basketball are having to deal with the transfer portal thing, and it is causing some major headaches. Hey, they brought it on themselves. Big TV deals, conference realignments, the college playoffs, and plain old greed.

See this from Kirk Bohls of the Chron today:

AUSTIN — With the shocking holdout and eventual departure of a well-established Tennessee quarterback over contentious contract negotiations over the weekend, some would have us think the sky is falling for college football.

That’s incorrect because it already has. Somebody has to figure out how to put it back together.

This isn’t your grandpa’s college football or even your dad’s and maybe not even your brother’s. This is new-world, every-man-for-himself college athletics.

Revolutionary, landscape-altering stuff. Shame on us.

Here is the entire Chron read: With NIL, transfer portal mess, college football in need of repair.

Like I said, they brought it on themselves. If coaches are going to get millions in salaries, the players deserve a cut of the action. I am not going to lose sleep over this.

Paige Buckets, err, Bueckers, will now be playing with the Dallas Wings. H-Town doesn’t get to be part of the WNBA action. We had our chance but let it get away.

Two of my favorite Emmas are celebrating birthdays today. Emma Watson of “Harry Potter” and “Beauty and the Beast” is 35, and Academy Award winner Emma Thomson is 66. Thompson won the Best Actress Oscar for “Howards End” and Best Adapted Screenplay Oscar for “Sense and Sensibility.” Thompson also co-starred in “Beauty and the Beast.” Happy Birthday, Emma and Emma, Belle and Mrs Potts.
