Houston Post
30 years ago today, the Houston Post published their final edition. I still have my copy, and it is today’s featured photo. The Post shutdown shocked H-Town. That was before social media, so I think I learned about this through the local TV news and word of mouth. I still remember the images of Houston Post journalists consoling each other outside of the Post office building. There was also a gathering that evening at a local watering hole.
Up until then, I thought it was cool that H-Town was one of the few cities with two major newspapers.
At the time, Bill Clinton was president. Bob Lanier was mayor. The Rockets were the defending NBA Champions. The Astros were coming off the 1994 strike ending season and were still in Spring Training and would only be playing a 144-games season.
I held subscriptions to both newspapers. I would read them both every morning.
