San Jacinto Day

Pope Francis is no longer with us. The tributes are pouring in for the champion of those most likely to be left behind. He will be missed.

Commentary has said it before. Most folks don’t know today is San Jacinto Day. They don’t know about the Battle of San Jacinto. They don’t know where the San Jacinto Battleground is located. Even folks in these parts.

The Battle of San Jacinto was fought 189 years ago today. Today it is recognized as a State of Texas holiday with skeleton crews required at state government offices. It is why both the Texas Senate, and the Texas House will not be in session today. It is why Early Voting in Person doesn’t start until tomorrow for the May 3 Uniform Election. Now you know, again.

Last Thursday, on the “3rd Hour of Today,” there was a feature on the mini murals that are on traffic signal boxes in H-Town. The segment was informative and entertaining. The featured photo is one with the late H-Town City Council Member Larry Green.

Siete Foods made it to the Texas State Senate Floor a few weeks ago. During the debate on SB 379, the bill on products that should be prohibited for purchase under the SNAP program, Sen. Carol Alvarado pulled out a bag of Siete chips and asked the bill’s author Sen. Mayes Middleton if Siete chips would be prohibited.
