Third Pulitzer

Congratulations to the Chron E-Board for winning the third Pulitzer Prize for the Chron yesterday. See the featured photo and this from the Chron

A series of editorials outlining the failures of railroads and state officials to protect Houstonians from the dangers and inconveniences of stopped and slow-moving trains has won the Houston Chronicle’s editorial department its second Pulitzer Prize in four years.

“I am proud that this shows the role an editorial board can still have in the community,” said Lisa Falkenberg, the Chronicle’s former opinion editor, now a state columnist. “We are informing, and we are taking it a step further and we are trying to make change in our community.”

The Pulitzer Prize for Editorial Writing follows months of work by the board to identify the problem stopped trains pose in the community and possible solutions aimed at keeping the trains moving or investment in finding ways for people to avoid them.

Here is the entire Chron read: Houston Chronicle wins Pulitzer Prize for Editorial Writing.

This is also Lisa Falkenberg’s third Pulitzer Prize. Lisa should be considered a city treasure for sure.

State Sen. Carol Alvarado has put the railroad crossing issue front and center. Sen. Alvarado is currently pushing for safer railroad crossings through grade separation projects.

Now the issue is getting national attention. Nice job, Chron E-Board for a well-deserved honor.

Support local journalism, please.

A resolution committee of the Texas Democratic Party will consider this evening a resolution to condemn Cong. Henry Cuellar for “disregard for the values of the Texas Democratic Party.”

Dumb idea.

Here is what a Texas Democratic Executive Committee member who is Latino tweeted:

I will be voting against this on the SDEC, and I will encourage others to do the same. At a time when we hemorrhaging voters in South Texas, the last thing we need to do is censure the Congressman who overperformed by 15 points in a district Trump won.

That is why we have Democratic Party primaries. Challenge Cong. Cuellar in another primary.

What can you say about the 17-17 Astros. Plus, Yordan’s hand is dinged up. Sigh.
